Snæfellsjökull, a 700,000 year old volcanic mountain in western Iceland was made famous by Jules Verne in the 1864 novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" as the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth. When gazing upon this magnificent mountain it's hard not to stop and stare. While traveling or in life it's often easy to forget to stop and savor the moments. That's a message that my friend and amazing landscape photographer Patrick Di Fruscia (pictured here) embodies and lives by and something we would all be wise to remind ourselves to do every once in a while.
By the way, these rocks are slippery little buggers when wet and I have a scar to remind me :O

The Eurasian Nuthatch (Sitta europaea) is a so-called cavernicolous bird in that it nests in a tree hole, more rarely in a wall or rock cavity. It often occupies a vacant peak nest. It rarely digs its own cavity. It is by squatting abandoned houses of larger birds that the Nuthatch torchepot is showing another originality. Indeed the flight hole being too big for its needs, it works to shrink it so that it reaches only 29-3l mm, which prohibits entry to other candidates, such as the starling for example.
It's the work of the female. By means of saliva-impregnated clay or clay balls, she carefully masonates a jamb to the desired dimensions. It is this ability that earned him the name of torchpot (mud).

A crested serpent eagle in Kaeng Krachan National Park.
Wikipedia: The crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela) is a medium-sized bird of prey that is found in forested habitats across tropical Asia. Within its widespread range across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and East Asia, there are considerable variations and some authorities prefer to treat several of its subspecies as completely separate species.
The crested serpent eagle is a reptile eater which hunts over forests, often close to wet grassland, for snakes and lizards. It has also been observed to prey on birds, amphibians, mammals, fishes, termites and large earthworms.
Conservation status: Least Concern
Often unnoticed and underrated, I think, the Dunnock was once misleadingly known as the Hedge Sparrow.
Caineville or often referred to as “Swingarm City” is a dirt bike heaven. Caineville has open riding terrain with large, steep hills and drop offs, as well as technical single track trails and ridge-line trails. Some of the best freestyle motocrossers come here to ride and jump some of the biggest natural jumps in the world.
DELIGHTFUL and often confiding little bird with a proportionately very long tail and seemingly an almost spherical body. The long-tailed tit is often seen in rather animated flocks, it moves in a rather jerky fashion and has acrobatic feeding habits. This was taken through a glass window in poor light.

Often, even if I don't always want to, I have to leave my forests and travel to the nearest city or to Helsinki. Helsinki is a dear city to me, I work there from time to time, people dear to me live there and I have also lived there temporarily for long periods of time. The city has given me a lot. I've rarely photographed it though, maybe because the days there are always so busy.
This ICM version of Helsinki is made of two stacked ICM photos, captured on a sunny November morning. The stacked photo itself was boring, so I colored it more and painted a few cars and a bench so that my image of Helsinki would be what the city really means to me. Joy, success and love.
This particular part of Helsinki is completely new and my eyes are not used to it. There are, for example, really tall tower blocks under construction, some already ready. On the left is the sea and the commercial port.
The video depicts a more traditional and more familiar Helsinki in January, during the bitter cold.
Often I find the other side of my origami tessellation also worthy to be treated like a frontside and having an own name, so let me introduce you to "Sapphire", the other side of Diamond.

As is so often the case here this year too,
it turns out that the winter in March is not over yet.
About 600 m above Reutte there is a small hut that offers a beautiful view of the valley
both in summer and in winter.

Unfortunately it is not possible for me to
thank everyone personally.

So the saying only the strong will survive is what came to mind.
🎼: Only the Strong Survive ~ Rod Stewart ~
✈️ : Missing Melody
I see you sittin' there all alone
Crying your eyes out
While everything's going wrong
You know there's gonna be
A whole lot of trouble in your life
Listen to me, get up off your knees
'Cause only the strong survive
Only the strong survive
Only the strong survive
Hey, you gotta be strong
You gotta hold on
I said don't give up, no don't
I said don't go around
With your head looking down
Don't you let'em make you feel like a clown
There's a lot of opportunity
Out there just waiting for you
But you'll never succeed if you've given up
And say your life is through
Listen this minute what I'm tellin' you
Only the strong survive
Only the strong survive
Hey, you gotta be strong
Gotta hold on
You gotta be a man, take a stand
These seafront properties often take a battering from the elements. You can see sand washed up on the road (where the owners' cars are usually parked), and I once saw it covered with a thick layer of seaweed flung up from the beach during a storm.
On the bright side - they do have wonderful, uninterrupted coastal views.

Pilots often use what is known as 'ground effect" to gain some lift by flying low to the surface. I think that's what this Great Blue Heron was doing. Or maybe it just liked the view and the feel of water of its wing tips.
Mullerthal
Often referred to as the Little Switzerland of Luxembourg, Mullerthal - or Mëllerdall in Luxembourgish – owes its name to its hilly landscape reminiscent of Switzerland. The Mullerthal Region is above all a unique biotope characterized by rock formations that are as beguiling as they are surprising. It is the unique composition of the rock and soil erosion that have contributed to the creation of this landscape so typical of Luxembourg's Little Switzerland.
Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata (often abbreviated to Psyllobora 22-punctata), the 22-spot ladybird, (earlier known as Thea vigintiduopunctata) is a common, 3–5 mm long ladybird native to Europe . The elytra are yellow in colour with 22 black spots. The pronotum is yellow or white with 5 black spots. Unlike most other ladybirds which feed on aphids, P. 22-punctata eats mildew — especially from umbellifers and low-growing shrubs . The 22-spot ladybird is best looked for amongst low vegetation.
Often unnoticed, I love the subtle beauty of this songbird once misleadingly known as the Hedge Sparrow.
The pretty little village of Culross, Fife is often used to film scenes for Outlander. With its cobbled streets, painted houses and stepped gables you can see why.
Charlotte Pass (often erroneously referred to as Charlotte's Pass), elevation 1,837 metres, is a snow resort and village in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. The pass is in the Kosciuszko National Park where the Kosciuszko Road crosses Kangaroo Ridge. Charlotte Pass is the closest village to Mount Kosciuszko. Charlotte Pass Village (elev. 1,760 metres) is at the base of Kangaroo Ridge to the south east of the pass. It is one of Australia's oldest snow resorts. It is the coldest location in Australia, with a record low of −23.0 °C and winter temperatures that regularly drop below −10 °C. The pass and village are named after Charlotte Adams who, in 1881, was the first European woman to climb Mount Kosciuszko. Charlotte Pass provides access to some of Australia's highest alpine terrain and was formerly a stop-off point for public vehicular access to Mt Kosciuszko, though the public access road now terminates at the Pass. Being an alpine area, it is subject to extremes in temperature, and is a recognised environmentally sensitive zone. 27482

I haven't been able to be online for several days so I know I've missed some of your beautiful images. I'll do my best to catch up with today's images as soon as I can. Happy Sunday! :)
I've often said that it's easier to feel for the balancing point with a larger rock, the moment where there are three vital points of contact, sometimes relying upon the slightest niche in the base rock.
At the risk of sounding like a rock nerd, I made fine adjustments with this one for some ten minutes or so, with a slight twist to the left here, feeling for where the weight pulled, a tweak to the right and numerous slight pulls, pushes and turns until finally I felt it 'lock' into place and balance with my fingertips only millimetres away until I was sure that the balance was good.
Not only that, but the whole rock visibly wobbled as this point was reached, for maybe a second or so to a state of stillness.
That wobble was the subtlest vibration and I was amazed to have seen it. One of those moments in nature that puts me in a state of awe and with a desire to look and perceive things more closely.
Steve Winwood ~ The Finer Things
Piercy Island, often known simply as "The Hole In The Rock” is located off the north coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is at the very northern tip of Cape Brett in the Bay of Islands. The island is more of a rock, barren only having gannets and other sea birds call it home.
The island itself was named Piercy Island by Captain Cook in honour of one of the Lords of the Admiralty and is called Motukokako in Maori.
The 60-foot (18 m) hole at sea level was created over centuries by wind and waves.

During the rut, we often hear the incredible, otherworldly sound of a bull elk bugling. But just how are they making that noise?
Until recently, scientists were stumped — the bugles reach pitches that are far too high to be produced by an elk’s voice box. It turns out there are two forces at work.
Use your binoculars to take a look at a bugling male – you’ll see that he is moving both his lips and his nostrils. That’s right: he’s roaring and whistling simultaneously.
And there......you’ve got the famous elk bugle.
We happened upon this handsome fella in early hours of daylight in Grand Teton National Park. He treated us to his bugle in the chilly morning air....
Have a great new week ahead !
So often it feels that something is ending as we cling to loved ones and cherished times. For others, the same moment comes as a new beginning whether it be filled with anticipation or anxiety. Lost in the entangled regrets, memories, dreams and fears is that only the present is tangible and available now.
