I will be a Grand-Butter again!!
Today I spotted a female fluttering around the milkweed... as of tonight, I collected 83 eggs!!!!
If I hadn't seen her, I wouldn't have even checked the milkweed... it was perfect timing that I was outside this morning when she visited!
If you have room in your garden, please plant milkweed... it's the only plant the Monarch will leave her eggs and the only plant the caterpillars will eat!!
You certainly don't have to do what I do, they can take care of themselves if left outside... but their chances of survival are much less...
I don't do selfies too often but when I woke up on the morning of 21 September and saw the beautiful morning light I knew I had to make this shot. So there you have it, my official birthday selfie with my new ride, a Triumph Street Twin 900.
FYI: I rode mini-bikes and dirt bikes in my youth and as they say, "I've still got it", but it has been a while. The only thing weird is when I'm riding on the street, I don't have to keep an eye out for the police. I have taken the state written test to obtain a permit so I can ride legally but this weekend I'll be taking a state sponsored Safety Course. Two full days and in the end, given I pass and I will, I'll get a waiver that the state recognizes in lieu of their testing.
I was heading toward Tegel Airport to try and capture some skylight trails, when I happened upon this abandoned office chair next to the wall of this walk way. So I positioned the chair in the middle and took an LE shot as quite frankly, it reminded me of those modern Asian Ghost movies, those ones that are actually scary and well acted, unlike the Western crap we get today.
I had to reduce the contrast light considerably to take out the background, which hopefully I've done and haven't compromised the image too far, so let me know what you think. Unfortunately, directly behind the chair and up a bit, there was this big, bright red side panel of a balcony that really screwed up my composition; hopefully that is now hidden. I guess this is a bit of unexpected fun, but certainly another for the Dark City Deutschland collection!

Kirribilli House is the secondary official residence of the Prime Minister of Australia. The harbour is an inlet of the Tasman Sea (part of the South Pacific Ocean). It is the location of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The location of the first European settlement and colony on the Australian mainland, Port Jackson has continued to play a key role in the history and development of Sydney. Port Jackson, in the early days of the colony, was also used as a shorthand for Sydney and its environs. Many recreational events are based on or around the harbour itself particularly the Sydney New Year's Eve celebrations and the starting point of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. The waterways of Port Jackson are managed by the Roads & Maritime Services. According to Venetian official statistics approximately 16 million people visited the province of Venice in 2011, with increases projected for 2012-13. Most if not all visitors, come to visit the central island Venezia in order to see and be in the heart of the city. Geographically the city center which includes St. Mark’s Basilica, St Mark’s Square, the Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge, as well as the homes and businesses of Venetians exists on a land mass that is roughly six square miles. These six square miles are criss-crossed by the Grand and the not-so-grand canals which invite tourists to explore the nooks and crannies of a medieval powerhouse that still displays its heritage.
However, as a frame of reference, visitors should do the math. Public access to the six square miles of the central part of Venice is reduced by the areas occupied by private housing, businesses and by canals. Effectively the 80,000 to 100,000 daily visitors and the 40,000 to 60,000 local residents or business employers and employees are competing for approximately one to two square miles of open space. Regardless of the crowds it should be noted that while tourists may travel stem to stern in seemingly endless lines of gondolas, on Venice’s solid ground no car, bus or motor scooter challenges a visitor’s right to live long and prosper. In Venice the trucks, cars, and buses come with keels and rudders. All vie for space on and in the canals. Gondoliers weave their boats and passengers through the Grand Canal water traffic much like carriage driver guide their clip-clopping horse drawn carriages through any busy city’s tourist center. The Franz Hesselberger is tied up along the canal here in Bamberg for the weekend. More or less an official guest. I liked the way it lay there in the water in evening sunlight. It is operated as a utility tugboat and ice-breaker by the Danube WSA (Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsamt), the agency that maintains the Main-Danube canal. [DSC00236_lr_3000]

"You can't!" I cried, staring out at the beautiful, illuminated planet that was my home world before turning desperate gaze to my captor. Down there were billions of people just living their lives, unaware of the danger above! The unit I had been a part of had been dispatched in secret as not to terrify our people that he was coming to our world. I tried to fight! We all did but we were ambushed and I was taken alive; brought to The Cosmic Tyrant. That's what they call him.
Everyone knew about this guy: he was ruthless and cared about no living thing except himself. And now he was offended by our home world but no one knew why. He'd be beautiful to me if he wasn't the one threatening to destroy everything I loved and held dear.
"I can't?" came that smooth, venomous voice. His piercing eyes turned upon me as a viscous smile curled at his lips. "You want to try that again, Prince?" Our eyes stared into each others and I knew that there was truly nothing I could do at this point to stop him.
With a dark chuckle, the black obsidian that hovered midair over his hands began to spark, dark pink electricity flickering and expanding all around us!
Now I knew I couldn't hold back the fear that lit my eyes. The rumors always said that all is calm, then you see a flash of pink light and then....gone. In a matter of minutes, my home would be nothing but dust floating through space and if I was l lucky, he'd kill me too.
This was it. This is how the world ends.

When I detrained from the Coast Starlight at Seattle once upon a timetable, this business car was on spot at King Street Station. Since Amtrak 14 had been early, I figured I had time to grab a photo before my ride arrived.
The "Columbia River" had a rather colorful history. It was built as a shell in 1958 for Soo Line. They finished the interior of the car and named it "Minneapolis." Great Northern purchased the car in 1966 as their "A2." In 1971, Burlington Northern named the car "Columbia River." It soldiers on today as BNSF 2, still carrying the "Columbia River" name.
