This week I woke up when it was well dark out, packed my car, and drove to a little frozen lake. I set up my camera in the dark, wedged my tripod into the frozen ground so it wouldn't sink in a puddle, and pulled on my dress. It was 15 degrees F outside and by the end of it, I couldn't feel my limbs. It was the best time I've had in a long time. The sunrise was glorious and it reflected purple on the water for my very last shot which I then edited into this image. I filmed the whole thing on my phone and uploaded the video today - you'll find it on my YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eegMBxucg0k
My entire adult life has been defined by experiences like this. Wandering alone in nature to find beautiful places to shoot. Freezing in dresses while I set up my photos, and then not feeling the cold at all while I'm shooting - complete creative flow and bliss. It has been defined by taking risks, a thousand pictures that will never see the light of day, and a thousand more that have. My entire being is wrapped up in my ability to do uncomfortable things. That's my identity. My curiosity is my strength.
Much like this image...casting a light into the dark, creating a sunrise with the lighting of a candle, and letting that flame guide me into a world of curiosities the likes of which I can only imagine. This image is me.

The most common form of offering that is seen everywhere in Bali, on a daily basis, is known as canang. It placed in temples, shrines and strategic locations of importance with a waft from a stick of incense and sprinkle of holy water. Shop keepers place this kind of flower offering in front of their stall upon opening up for trade and taxi drivers invariably have one on the dashboard of their vehicle.
Even as the island succumbs to a modern way of life, the art of making the most common form of offerings is still something that almost any young Balinese girl is able to do. This is an inherited practice, along with the duty to take care of the family shrine, which has been passed down through the generations.

1994 El regreso del tranvía a Valencia...
En lo que fue la antigua playa de vías de la importante terminal ferroviaria de Pont de Fusta encontramos actualmente una moderna estación tranviaria...
El origen del actual tranvía se sitúa en los ferrocarriles de vía estrecha que partían de la estación de Pont de Fusta, para la vuelta de Este, se utilizó el espacio que ocupaba la línea Valencia (Pont de Fusta) al Grao (puerto de Valencia) y la conexión entre la estación de Pont de Fusta y Ademuz (Empalme). El nuevo trazado del tranvía se diseñó con el objetivo de ofrecer un transporte integrado en un nuevo entorno urbano, sin barreras arquitectónicas.
La construcción del tranvía permitió eliminar el antiguo trazado del tren de vía estrecha (el Trenet de Valencia), reorganizar las zonas por las que pasaba y eliminar numerosos pasos a nivel.
La línea del tranvía se inauguró con 10 kilómetros de red en vía doble, de ancho métrico, con sendos bucles de retorno dispuestos en sus extremos.

1994 The return of the tram to Valencia...
In what was the old railway yard and platforms of the important Pont de Fusta railway terminal we currently find a modern tram station...
The origin of the current tram is located in the narrow gauge railways that departed from the Pont de Fusta station, for the return of this, the space occupied by the Valencia line (Pont de Fusta) to the Grao (port of Valencia) was used and also the connection between the Pont de Fusta station and Ademuz (Empalme station). The new tram route was designed with the aim of offering integrated transport in a new urban environment, without architectural barriers.
The construction of the tram made it possible to eliminate the old narrow-gauge train route (the Valencia Trenet), reorganize the areas through which it passed and eliminate numerous level crossings.
The tram line was inaugurated with 10 kilometers of double track network, of metric gauge, with separate return loops arranged at its ends.

Slowly, Winter withers on the vine. And slowly, Spring struggles to be born.
Finally. I don't know what magical transubstantiation goes on in my veins as soon as the first signs of springtime appear--sunshine plainly turns to more than just vitamins in these wacky arteries, maybe it turns to liquor or soma or something--but I'm happy to have it once more chugging through the frosty channels of my body.
It's also plain that I need to up my photo game a little bit. As the months go on, I should start fiddling with Ye Olde Camera more and more.
