Qumran (Hebrew: קומראן; Arabic: خربة قمران Khirbet Qumran) is an archaeological site in the West Bank managed by Israel's Qumran National Park.[1] It is located on a dry plateau about 1.5 km (1 mi) from the northwestern shore of the Dead Sea, near the Israeli settlement and kibbutz of Kalya. The Hellenistic period settlement was constructed during the reign of John Hyrcanus, 134-104 BCE or somewhat later, and was occupied most of the time until it was destroyed by the Romans in 68 CE or shortly after. It is best known as the settlement nearest to the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were hidden, caves in the sheer desert cliffs and beneath, in the marl terrace. The principal excavations at Qumran were conducted by Roland de Vaux in the 1950s, though several later unearthings at the site have since been carried out. (Wikipedia)

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !!
Today we have a pink or purple day at Color My World Daily and the theme at Smile on Saturday is : made of leather.
Yesterday, I had truly a hard time with Flickr. I was unable to publish my picture until the late morning but then everything was super slow …. I hope it will not happen today !!! Or ever again ! It is super frustrating if you are a Flicker addict such as myself…
So my todays’s picture is an old leather baseball ball and a pink pencil. Of course, as you may all suspect by now, I have absolutely no idea how , when or with how many people play baseball. My only knowledge of baseball is this ball (which I found in a park near my house, and since I’m a hoarder I had it in my home ever since…) made of leather, a bat (which I dont have …yet ;-)) and some very handsome men running in spandex-lycra clothing…. I also know that the ball has to be placed on some kind of « stick » which is represented here by my pencil….
I hope my leather ball will be accepted for this challenge. I wish you all an amazing day and see you later my friends !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and healthy!! And see you soon on Flickr !!
Smile on Saturday#Full of Memories
St. John's wort ready for drying
My strongest memories are of my grandmother. In addition to bearing her name, I also have many of her qualities and her loves. From her I learned to love flowers and birds, to cook and make wonderful sweets. She taught me how to dry herbs. This is my favorite picture because whenever I look at it I can even feel the atmosphere and smell of that herb as she prepares it for drying. The light in the picture is exactly what I remember, a constant play of light and darkness, because her house was surrounded by large trees, so the sun was breaking through the branches. As a background, I used the door from her kitchen cupboard and the plate from her garden table. Yes, I loved her very much and I miss her very much but I am happy that she knew I loved her.
HSoS!
Knowing a piece of this wonderful country...its historical heritage, its culture, cuisine and mix of many people...I thank Portugal for the reception (December 2019).
I loaded memory cards with about 700 photos, but I will try during this period to download the ones that I liked the most, I hope you enjoy them.

Especially effective You can visit that at this place, the Rhein Falls from Schaffhausen. On average 373 cubic meters of water are falling down the rocks per second. On the maximum in 1965 it were 1250 cubic meters per second. That makes that waterfall to one of the three largest in europe.
The Tower of the Winds or the Horologion of Andronikos Kyrrhestes is an octagonal Pentelic marble clocktower in the Roman Agora in Athens that functioned as a horologion or "timepiece". It is considered the world's first meteorological station. Unofficially, the monument is also called Aerides (Greek: Αέρηδες), which means Winds.

The Yellow Rose of Friendship
Once in a while a friend is found
Who’s a friend right from the start;
Once in a while a friendship’s made
That really warms the heart
Once in a while a friendship’s found
to have a lifetime through;
It really does happen,
Just once in a while,
It happened to Me and You.

Macro Mondays theme Made of Metal
Tension Spring rescued from the floor of the car, probably fallen off during the many times we have moved our kids between rented properties as students and since. It was destined for the bin but I took a shine to it and squirrelled it away.

Happy Macro Mondays! 😊
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a pink or purple day at Color my World Daily and the theme at Smile on Saturday is « full of memories ».
When I was about 9 years old, we moved from Poland to Algeria. My Dad was working there. As a little girl I missed my grandmother very, very much. Back then there was no internet and even telephone wasn’t a very efficient way of keeping contact between Poland and Algeria. So , for several weeks I was saving my lunch money to buy a gift for my grandmother. I got her this tiny necklace. I went to this flea market and I bargained with the seller until we both reach an acceptable price. And the necklace was mine.It is called « hamsa » (it means five) and it is a very, very popular amulet in Middle East. Hamsa is supposed to bring you good fortune and protect the bearer from the « evil eye ». It was a perfect gift for my grandmother, so far away from me… This amulet was supposed to protect her from anything bad. And it did !! My grandmother was always wearing this necklace. For years. The last time I saw her, she had her necklace with her. She told me that the necklace was reminding her of me and our family so far away but so close in her heart…. The necklace traveled with her, through Europe, Russia and almost to Japan. When she died, peacefully in her sleep wearing her necklace near her heart, she was at peace. At one point, I got my necklace back. It went from Algeria to Poland, from Poland all around the glob and then back to Montreal, Canada. Since then, I always keep it with me… I truly believe it will protect me from anything bad…and each time I touch it, it brings an amazing amount of very good memories.
And if you want to know more about « hamsa », here is the link : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamsa
Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! Have a beautiful day and see you later!!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !!

Anything goes for 2021 - Out of my comfort zone
I thought I would take a photo of the berries on the berberis bush in my garden. A nice quick simple photo...but then I decided to add a few textures, finishing with a red petal with raindrops on it. So my simple photo ended up taking a lot longer than I had planned. I'm not sure it was worth the effort, I probably should have stayed in my comfort zone and set up a still life!

SLURL EVENT :
blessing of Cossack. Without the blessing of God, no matter can not have success. Blessing involves the transfer of real power. It can powerfully influence the lives of those who have received the blessing. The kissing of the priest’s hand, which occurs when he gives the cross and blesses, has a special spiritual and moral significance. Receiving grace from God through the cross or priestly blessing, a person mentally kisses the invisible hand of God, which gives him this grace..The Cossacks of Russia, first of all, are the Cossacks, who appeared on the Don, the Lower Volga and the Urals.
The first official mention in Russian sources of the "Cossacks" refers to the XVI century.

Sea of Sin
I’m swimming in
And I’m taking a dive
My mind’s in need
So my body feeds
And it keeps me alive
It gets better and better
As it gets wetter and wetter
Sea of Sin
Know where you’ve been
But I don’t care
Sea of Sin
Through thick and thin
For better or worse
My mind’s in need
So my body feeds
And it quenches my thirst
You look cheaper and cheaper
As we sink deeper and deeper
Sea of Sin
Know where you’ve been
‚cause I’ve been there
Here under God’s sky
His watchful eye
And all of the lies
My consolation prize
Sea of Sin
My second skin
My home from home
When I’m in doubt
My hands reach out
And I’m never alone
It gets wetter and wetter
As it gets better and better
Sea of Sin
Know where you’ve been
And I repent
Sea of Sin
Know where you’ve been
Yes I’m aware
Sea of Sin
Know where you’ve been
‚cause I’ve been there
Sea of Sin
Know where you’ve been
And I don’t care

♡ PLACE ♡
Today's Smile on Saturday theme is full of memories. A very interesting theme, but hard for me. I have so many wonderful memories. Many of them revolve around our boat and the family and friends who joined us cruising. But even limiting myself to boating photos, there were so many truly awesome places that we visited, I couldn't chose one. So I chose this one - an everyday type of place and scene. Put it in mono since it's a memory now, as is our boat, which we sold in early 2020.
