"Odyssey and Hope" - The associated signage reads in part: It is not, strictly speaking, a mosaïculture piece. rather, it is representative of a new trend, that of so-called ecological works: creations with an often ephemeral quality, made from organic materials and inspired by nature.
Odyssey (the mare) and Hope (the colt) are born of the hands of Heather Jansch, a British sculptor widely praised in the UK.

Discovered during my journey with painting light on a black canvas. Created with different shapes of light. No photo shop, and is one single image taken over the span of 237 seconds using some light painting brushes instead of regular paint.

Keep your eyes on the seas
Dear Sailors of wind and high waters
With secrets abound she has a daughter
That reaches no borders
She’ll swim along starboard
To capture your heart
She’ll sneak to the shorelines
From port to port to port
Take caution not to abduct
For a flip of her tail-fin
You’ll surely disrupt
And she’ll turn under waters
To depart
Stealing your heart

I have called this image Odyssey for two reasons. Firstly, if you were to follow these railings you would find yourself on a strange and mysterious journey into a dark and distant nowhere. Secondly, because that is exactly the journey I found myself on when exploring the sliders in Lightroom and Photoshop ;-)
In March on a business trip to Las Vegas I roamed around the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada at night. The High Roller is currently the world's tallest Ferris wheel. When I looked at this monochrome photo, Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" came to mind, the epic science fiction film from 1968.

Once the mecca for rail-fans and rail-photgraphers alike on any trip to the north, the rebuilt station of Manchester Victoria these days has few admirers with its emphasis on brutalist concrete and scaffold-like steelwork structures.
That said, in the right light, there are some reasonable angles to be had, and hopefully this is one of them. Stood on the footbridge steps just below the line of lights over platform 4 you can at least pick out the patches of sunlight warming the passengers, as well as the departing unit, 150133, heading Northern's 1.08pm Wigan North Western - Stalybridge (2W54) service about to tackle Miles Platting bank on the climb out of the city.
Not surprisingly given events here, a few police were making a very visible appearance over on platform 3.
Sadly, for those of a certain age looking for a bit of 1970s nostalgia, there's precious little of it to be had - and certainly no greasy sausage rolls in 'The Coastal' Buffet that was once located to the left of this spot. Nor are there any class 40s whistling their way through the station perhaps in need of banking support going up the incline. But if you're carrying a camera, all is not lost and there are still a few freight workings which make their way through the station. There are also a few eateries for those in need of more substantial sustenance away from the diet of mostly wall-to-wall DMUs!
