This tiny perennial Geranium has become naturalized in my garden, roaming around and popping up wherever it chooses. Since it rarely threatens other flowers, I let it add its colorful accent wherever it pleases.

This White Tail Deer Fawn takes one last look before walking away with its Mom and twin.

When a fawn is born it is odorless so that predators are not attracted to its location. The mother will leave the fawns ( but stay nearby ) for the first 4-5 days and come back a few times a day to nurse. A doe and her fawns live as a family group until the fawns are weaned. Often the area where the fawn is born will become its adult habitat. - This photo was taken in Rockyview County, Alberta Canada Odocoileus virginianus

Taiwan’s geological location as an island situated right on two major tectonic plates has given it many beautiful mountain ranges and volcanoes, resulting in literally hundreds of natural hot springs scattered across different areas of the island.

During fall and winter, hot spring destinations across the nation are quite often jammed with locals and visitors looking to experience the instant feeling of warmth and coziness brought on by bathing in heated groundwater.

For those who favor hot springs that are odorless and clear, however, there is only one clear option: Wulai, a rural aboriginal township in northern Taiwan that is famous for its odorless bicarbonate hot springs.

There's something in the air and while it may not be love,

some say it's the next best thing -- negative ions.

You may have experienced the power of negative ions when you last set foot on the beach or at the mountains. While part of the euphoria is simply being around the wondrous settings and away from the normal pressures of home and work, the air circulating in the mountains and the beach is said to contain tens of thousands of negative ions -- Much more than the average home or office building, which contain dozens or hundreds, and many register a flat zero.

Negative ions are odorless, tasteless, and invisible molecules that we inhale in abundance in certain environments. Think mountains, waterfalls, and beaches. Once they reach our bloodstream, negative ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping to alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy.

Fritillaria meleagris is a Eurasian species of flowering plant in the lily family.[2][3][4] Its common names include snake's head fritillary, snake's head (the original English name), chess flower, frog-cup, guinea-hen flower, guinea flower, leper lily.in Germany it is under nature protection

The flowering period runs from April to May. The mostly single, rarely in pairs standing flowers are nodding [3] to hanging down. The hermaphrodite, threefold flowers are almost odorless and wide bell-shaped. The six equal multiform, about 4 centimeters long tepals whose blunt tip is usually somewhat bent, are checkerboard mottled purple-white or greenish-white. Even with the completely white form Fritillaria meleagris f. Alba the eponymous patterning is barely recognizable.

A honey bee on a Cleome or "Spider flower".I don't know what particular species of Cleome this one is.After all, there are about 275 species of the flower and I certainly wasn't going to go through them all to find out!Cleome are native to South America in countries like Argentina,Uruguay Paraguay and southern Brazil, although some believe South Africa to be the place of origin. Most of you already know about the Cleome,so I won't say much about it.One interesting thing I read about them however is that the plant,as you know, have prickly thorns and also a pungent odor that some people find offensive. Now,there are newer hybrids of cleome that are odorless! One such hybrid called"Señorita Rosalita" (a catchy name) is both odorless and thornless. Also, cleome are generally annual and perennial plants. The newer breed of the plant however will not grow next year's flowers, because the seeds are sterile. The reason for that,I think,is that the plant is considered to be invasive if the seeds are allowed to fall on the ground. The newer hybrids are also smaller than the original, like the "Señorita Rosalita"mentioned above which grows up to three feet high,I believe.

Cough.. For the MM four elements (Earth, Water, Air & Fire) challenge today, I chose Air as in smoky air! Selma (the Simpsons) is always smoking up a storm. Cough. Her smoking is messing up the clean fresh air around here! Cough.

The smoky effect is real.. I had some fun with (odorless) smoke in a can! Didn't want to buy a smoke machine. ;-)

I cropped the pic so it’s all under 3 inches. HMM!

Oenothera Pallida

***** Arches NP *****

Ecology

Pollen from Oenothera fruticosa

Most species are predominantly pollinated by insects. The nectar in the flower tubes below can only be reached by long-nosed insects, but nectar predators simply bite the tubes open. Representatives of the swarmers (butterflies) can be found particularly often on the flowers , which can hardly be disturbed by the nectar intake even when people observe them very closely.

For example, the pigeon tail and the medium owl can be observed as they hover in front of the flowers. One species of hawkmoth bears the name evening primrose hawk because of its preference for the nectar of this plant genus .

The flowers open shortly after sunset within a few minutes in one flowing movement. The speed with which it blooms cannot be observed in any other plant found in Central Europe . The main flowering time of most species is in the summer months of July and August, plants that bloom late or after the start of frost can be found.

A flower that opens is usually still odorless. Only after about 20 minutes to half an hour does their scent become intensely sweet, so that people sometimes find it intrusive and almost smelly , but are then visited by the insects mentioned.

The evening primrose produces hundreds of seeds per flower panicle. The seed chambers open as soon as the plant has died. Even the vibrations caused by a light wind are enough to distribute the seeds.

The biennial evening primrose species do not bloom until the second year. In the first year a rosette of leaves forms, lying flat on the ground . In the second year the plant develops upwards and forms one or more flower stalks, of which the terminal one can reach a height of up to 2 meters.

As invasive, biennial perennials, evening primrose is often and often predominantly developed in ruderal societies that are in dry and sunny (warm) locations. Meadow communities or stony free locations are also settled. Without repeated disturbance of the soil, these two-year-old plants will be displaced by perennial plants after just a few years , so that the germination capacity of the seeds and the occurrence of suitable areas are important for permanent settlement.

We all associate electricity with blue. Dazzling lightning, static sparks... Anyway, for me the association is also with the great Italian scientist from Como, Alessandro Volta (1745-1827). He was a man of many inventions in physics and chemophysics. Of course notable for inventing the first electric battery (=voltaic pile) in 1799. But before that he'd already discovered the gas methane in 1776. Methane is odorless and colorless but it burns with a blue flame. Volta is honored by the Tempio Voltiano (1925-1927), a museum in neoclassical style in Como devoted to him and his work (see inset, and note the electrical light on the right).

All that energetic blueness!!! And here are blue Hydrangeas, too, in the Parco di Villa Olmo just up the road. Hydrangeas were introduced to Europe precisely in Volta's times.

No, I'm not in Siam (Thailand) nor in India, where this plant is endemic. But it's now become pantropical and my flower can be seen in the scrub all over Lombok. Though the flowers are odorless, the crushed leaves are aromatic.

But this small Carpenter Bee is seeking nectar. I'm not sure of its specifics but it may be 'collusor'. Note the two tiny yellow spots below its thorax.

A Northern Saw Whet Owl doing what Owls do best, and coughs up a pellet. What is a pellet? Well, owls primarily eat smaller mammals, reptiles, amphibians and other birds. These prey items are often swallowed whole. Even so, owls cannot digest all parts of animal like bones, feathers, and fur. Pellets consist of that undigested food material. While it looks like this little bird is defecating from it's mouth, it's not! Pellets are not feces and are usually odorless. They're useful to researchers as they can tell quite a bit about an owls diet. Skulls and other bones are generally not broken during an attack, so prey animals can be easily identified.

Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there.

Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide:

· is also known as hydroxl acid, and is the major component of acid rain.

· contributes to the "greenhouse effect."

· may cause severe burns.

· contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.

· accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.

· may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.

· has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

Contamination is reaching epidemic proportions!

Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the midwest, and recently California.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:

· as an industrial solvent and coolant.

· in nuclear power plants.

· in the production of styrofoam.

· as a fire retardant.

· in many forms of cruel animal research.

· in the distribution of pesticides.

· as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.

Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!

The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.

Lilium lancifolium (syn. L. tigrinum) is an Asian species of lily, native to China, Japan, Korea, and the Russian Far East. It is widely planted as an ornamental because of its showy orange-and-black flowers, and sporadically occurs as a garden escapee in North America, particularly the eastern United States including New England, and has made incursions into some southern states such as Georgia.

It has the English name tiger lily, but that name has been applied to other species as well.

Like other true lilies, the flowers are borne on upright stems that are 80–200 centimetres (31–79 inches) tall and bear lanceolate leaves 6–10 cm (2+1⁄2–4 in) long and 1–2 cm (3⁄8–3⁄4 in) broad. L. lancifolium produces aerial bulblets, known as bulbils, in the leaf axils. These bulbils are uncommon in Lilium species and they produce new plants that are clones of the original plant.

The flowers are odorless. Each lasts a few days and if pollinated produce capsules with many thin seeds.

Taxonomy

The names of names considered as varieties at some time are:

Lilium lancifolium var. densum W.Bull

Lilium tigrinum var. fortunei Standish

Lilium tigrinum var. splendens Van Houtte

Lilium tigrinum var. flore-pleno auct.

Lilium tigrinum var. erectum G.F.Wilson

Lilium tigrinum var. plenescens Waugh

Lilium lancifolium var. flaviflorum Makino

Lilium lancifolium var. fortunei (Standish) V.A.Matthews

Lilium lancifolium var. splendens (Van Houtte) V.A.Matthews

The Lilium tigrinum flore pleno, the double-flowered variety, had been exported out of Japan by William Bull since 1869.

Names

Scientific names

Botanists for many years considered L. tigrinum (after Ker Gawler) the correct scientific name until it was determined that older name L. lancifolium (after Thunberg) refers to the same species, and the latter became the accepted name.

Vernacular names

Its common name is tiger lily. Although this name is ambiguous across several species, it is correctly applied to this species alone.

Cat toxicity

A case study of the successful treatment of a cat that ingested this particular species was published 2007.

Uses

It is cultivated and wild foraged in Asia for its edible bulbs. The cultivar 'Splendens' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. In Taiwan, both the flower and bulbs are used as food, as are the other related species: L. brownii var. viridulum, L. pumilum and L. candidum.

Robert Norman Ross (October 29, 1942 – July 4, 1995) was an American painter, art instructor, and television host. He was the creator and host of The Joy of Painting, an instructional television program that aired from 1983 to 1994 on PBS in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Europe. Ross subsequently became widely known via his posthumous internet presence.

The show ran from January 11, 1983, to May 17, 1994, but reruns still continue to appear in many broadcast areas and countries. In the United Kingdom, the BBC re-ran episodes during the COVID-19 pandemic while most viewers were in lockdown at home.

During each half-hour segment, Ross would instruct viewers in the quick, wet on wet oil painting technique, painting a scene without sketching it first, but creating the image directly from his imagination, in real time. He explained his limited paint palette, deconstructing the process into simple steps.

Ross used a wet-on-wet oil painting technique of painting over a thin base layer of wet paint. The painting could progress without first drying. The technique used a limited selection of tools and colors that didn't require a large investment in expensive equipment. Ross frequently recommended odorless paint thinner (odorless mineral spirits) for brush cleaning.

Ross was well known for phrases he tended to repeat while painting, such as "let's add some happy little trees".

The landscapes he painted, typically mountains, lakes, snow and log cabin scenes, were inspired by his years in Alaska, where he was stationed for the majority of his Air Force career. He repeatedly said everyone had inherent artistic talent and could become an accomplished artist given time, practice and encouragement. Ross would say, "we don't make mistakes; we just have happy accidents."

LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is natural gas cooled to approximately -163 ° C. Cooling means that the gas is condensed and goes from gas to liquid form, which causes the volume of the gas is reduced about 600 times. LNG is odorless, colorless, and has a specific gravity less than half of water (0.45). Spills of LNG would quickly evaporate and go over to natural gas. Gas in liquid form can be transported by road tanker / container or specially designed ships.
