El pulpo común o pulpo de roca es una especie de molusco cefalópodo octópodo de la familia Octopodidae. Vive en el mar Mediterráneo, así como en el Atlántico oriental.

Upon the dissolution of the UN, fledgling corporate charters began their exploitation of the frontier. The discovery of precious superconductors on the exoplanet Hibernia drew these new powers into an endless proxy war.

More updates to the multiped, including a test animation from a month ago, hope you enjoy. I'm really happy with it so far, but as always I appreciate input, thoughts, C&C, etc. Thanks!

Check the comments below for a stop-motion animation, thanks!

During the first operational dive of Okeanos Explorer’s 2016 expeditions, on February 27, while exploring at depths of over 4,000 meters northeast of Necker Island in the Hawaiian Archipelago, Deep Discoverer encountered this ghostlike octopod. The octopod is almost certainly an undescribed species and may not belong to any described genus.

This is my squid or octopod - goes everywhere with me, as it has connectors for all my devices, including my ancient ipad 2. It looks like a squid when the cables are out, but more like a silicon pebble when they are tucked inside.

This sculpture is made of polymer clay, wood and glass with real stones and twigs. Painted with acrylic and metallic paint. I call him an Octopod cause it catchy but he actually only has 5 tentacles. What would that be...a Centopod...?...not quite the same :D

He measures 5.5" tall by 4" at his widest point.

This image reminded me of photos I've seen of octopus hung up to dry on Greek fishing boats...

It's got a solid state laser array, double rotary cannons, mini drone launcher suite, basic smoke/chaff, and ACS on the side skirts.

The feet are synthetic setae pads which provide unparalleled traction on almost any surface. They also boast robust shock absorbers for tackling manoeuvres.

The legs are multi-directional but can align horizontal to forward direction to enable high speed "strandbeest" style locomotion.

A continuation of my ongoing Multiped Dream Project. I'm trying to go for a menacing and hulking profile while not sacrificing character.

Please let me know what you think, I would appreciate fresh eyes, comments, critiques, etc.

Thanks all!

Squid are cephalopods of the order Teuthida. They are the sister group to the octopods. Squid are carnivores, but they are also hunted as prey. The largest squid, the giant squid and colossal squid, are eaten by sperm whales and sleeper sharks.

There are about 300 species of squid.

I Shot this image right in front of the squid that was swimming toward me at eye level. The way I used was just like portrait shooting. I chose a single focus point focusing that of course on its eye.

Argonauta argo, also known as the 'Greater argonaut', is a species of pelagic octopus belonging to the genus Argonauta.

It is the largest species in the genus and also produces the largest eggcase. The eggcase is characterised by two rows of small, sharp tubercles running along a narrow keel, smooth ribs across the walls of the shell, and a thickening along the shell aperture, which forms distinct protrusions or 'horns' on either side.

During Dive 09 of the 2023 Shakedown + EXPRESS West Coast Exploration expedition, at a depth of 814 meters (2,671 feet), we were treated to sightings of not one but TWO flapjack octopus (Opisthoteuthis californiana) on the seafloor. These octopods are commonly referred to as the flapjack octopus – from this video, the name seems appropriate! In the close-up video of the octopus, you’ll see white spots running along the arms and up unto the head – while the actual function of these is unknown, it is suspected that they may gather additional light, allowing the animal to detect shadows and such using its eyes.

The Spotted Jelly or Lagoon Jelly (Mastigias papua) is a species of jellyfish. It lives mainly in the southern Pacific Ocean. Instead of one single mouth, they appear to have several smaller mouth openings in their oral arms. These feed on zooplankton.

In Japan--especially along Pacific coast areas--these are sold as novelty pets, along with photoautotrophic phytoplankton, and are called takokurage (タコクラゲ), or "octopod" or "rammer" jellies.

They seem to have a lifespan of approximately 4 months and are active primarily in mid-summer to early-fall.

Digital P&S photo of the pinhole camera setup used to make the Pear No. 1 - 3 images. The black box is my homemade, foldable 8x10" Camera Obscura ("Stenobscura #1", 190mm, f.540). The pinhole is looking straight down onto the dish with the sliced pear. The "Octopod" construction is very similar to that used for my first "Weathered Wood" photo: two wood-horses, two support beams, four screw clamps to fix the beams to the wood-horses. This time I've rotated the beams so that their thin sides face up, a mechanically more rigid configuration. The dish with the pear sits on a little table on top of a plain white cloth. The table cloth itself was attached to the wood horses with clothes pegs. Natural daylight enters the scene from the top-left side through an attic window. Light distribution was very even throughout the up to 6 hours exposure; light levels pretty constant (around EV10 on a bright Spring day). As expected, the camera blocked some of the incoming light and cast a little shadow. I've therefore placed a mirror to the right, resting on the table edge and the back of a chair, to bounce some light back onto the dish. Centering the camera over the dish initially looked a bit tricky, but using (a) the wooden beams as a reference and (b) looking down from the camera edges worked quite well.

The eight wheel Sentinels were the least successful in the Sentinel / Rolls Royce range. The NCB had two at Moor Green. Here, D12 (Rolls Royce 10178 of 1964) uses its 544hp to lift a rake of mgr fulls out of the colliery towards Langley Mill Jct. Both were scrapped after just 20 years service when the colliery closed.

Magazine Editor’s Introduction to the story:

“We don’t know absolutely that any of the planets are inhabited, yet some of our best scientists are firmly convinced that at least Mars has intelligent beings, and possibly Venus. (Sadly, it is a “No!” to both.) The lines and ridges that can be seen through the powerful telescopes, seem to be canals built by some intelligent beings, apparently advanced in some fields of science. (It seems the canals on Mars were a figment of human imagination based on an optical illusion that fooled even famed astronomer Percival Lowell, discoverer of Pluto).

“It is quite possible that telescopes more powerful than our most advanced present-day instruments will be built. Radio is still in its infant stages. Aviation, also, must inevitably make great strides. One or two more inventions that will tend to nullify gravitation and a combination of the perfected inventions and discoveries mentioned before, and conquering the ether for trips to other planets may not be so impossible after all. Mr. Vincent gives us, in a manner not beyond the laymen’s understanding, mathematical calculations, expert advice, and reasons based on scientific fact, why such results might sometime be achieved. And basing his story on accepted science, he gives us an excellent picture of what the inhabitants of Venus might really be like and what their life and customs might be like.” (Venus’ runaway greenhouse effect sends temperatures soaring to that of molten lead, making life impossible, I’m afraid.)

[Note: It is the eve of America's Great Depression and Hugo Gernsback's "Experimenter Publishing Company" was forced into bankruptcy. The publisher of this particular issue of the Quarterly is listed as the Irving Trust Company, the trustee in bankruptcy. Though the Gernsback brothers lost control of Experimenter Publishing, the magazines did not miss an issue and were quickly sold to another publisher. The Gernsbacks promptly started new magazines to compete with their former ones.]

LEGO’s best X-Wing pre-Star War license?

I’m a huge fan of Blacktron II’s use of octagon transparent neon green domes and detachable pods in their larger sets.

My younger self imagined the pods would be for atmospheric travel, with the back rockets intended for intergalactic travel/warp speed.

Pretty cool little spaceship, classic minifig with the old blockhead, and great neon pieces!

This is me without eyebrows (again) the spiky thing is a stuffed fish I have sine I was five, I think that the make-up reflects a break-up that made me go from a more hippie-oriented punky style to a darker more shock-punk style, yes I have always envied octopods for their skin, able to change structure and color by will, I had to do it in a more time-consuming way, by scissors, razors and some makeup...

...Jimmy now had adjusted fully to his new freedom he moved about at will in his new jungle-villager he almost considered it his home now, he even understood some rudimentary words in their strange language, He would move around and say: What this and point towards different object.... slowly he got a new language, many times the villagers would laugh at him when he was trying to say stuff that was meant serious, but obviously came out very wrong...

Taken just after dawn when some soft light was coming in the window...

This rare dumbo octopus (Cirrothauma murrayi) is often called the Blind Octopod due to the lack of a lens and reduced retina in its eyes. Its eyes can really only detect light and cannot form images. Seen while exploring the west wall of Mona Canyon on April 13, 2015, off of the coast of Puerto Rico.
