A string of strong storms stirred up the sea. Thor's Well was especially active. Light on this day was harsh and gusting sea breezes hampered long exposures. I manged this image as a large wave raced shore-ward and curled before turning the well into a powerful geyser.
Thank you friends once again for visiting my site. Always appreciated. A great week to you!
It had been stormy all day: Thunder, lightening and rain. As golden hour approached, the clouds broke up and the sun lit those that hung over landfall.
A thunderstorm rumbled across the area with winds and drenching rain. Afterwards, sunlight broken through the mist and haze here at Three Arches on the Oregon Coast.
After a harsh coastal storm power-washed our coach, a momentary reprieve offered this wink of the sun ahead of the next storm.
Grande jetée Des Sables D'Olonne 1997
A powerful black-and-white photograph capturing the Grande Jetée at Les Sables-d’Olonne, where the red light beacon stands against the fury of the Atlantic Ocean. Waves crash with immense force against the breakwater, sending up plumes of spray that seem to dissolve into the sky. Seagulls circle in the wind, their flight accentuating both the drama and the vastness of the scene. The composition conveys a timeless dialogue between human construction and the untamed energy of the sea, caught in a fleeting yet eternal moment.

Heavy clouds gather above the Skagerrak, casting dramatic shadows over the calm waters outside Risør. This view from Kastellet towards the south and southeast captures the tense stillness before an approaching storm — a rare moment of quiet before nature unleashes its full force. The horizon feels both distant and near, a line between serenity and chaos.
Fun Fact
The Skagerrak strait connects the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, forming a vital maritime route between Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Its name originates from the Old Norse words for “beard” (skegg) and “straight course” (rak), referring to its long, narrow shape.
Lightning bolt was far enough away as to not overexpose in the shot. I like the combination of the bolt and the stars of the constellation Orion. Nikon D-90 with Nikon AF Nikkor 16mm Fisheye lens.
In the clutches of winter, the untamed waves at the city beach of Palma de Mallorca lash out against the sands, a symphony of chaos and elegance. The brooding sky, heavy with storm clouds, hangs over the sea, signaling the relentless vigor of the tempest. The froth of the waves boldly contrasts with the ocean's deep blues and grays, and the overcast sky, capturing the wild essence of nature in its purest form. This scene, seized on a day when the elements unleash their full strength, is a testament to the majestic and formidable power of the natural world.
There is one knows not what sweet mystery about this sea, whose gently awful stirrings seem to speak of some hidden soul beneath. ~Herman Melville
*A powerful Atlantic coastal storm created beautifully shaped, albeit very large waves. The force of the waves caused tremendous upwelling of beach sand, that when illuminated by the early morning sun, gave the saltwater a golden color.

The beach from where this photo was taken is private property, but is owned by the company my dad now works for. We get to go there anytime we like. I like to think of this as My Own Private Beach, even though it's shared by multiple families.
At least I'm the only one who ever takes time to climb up the palm trees to get the cocunuts. Bottled water is overrated when coconut milk is on the menue.

October 15, Canon Beach, OR in the middle of a Pineapple Express storm. It was rainy and gray all day. . I didn't have much hope for any kind of picture that day. But then, around sunset, the rains stopped and the clouds broke enough that the sun could put on a show. 45 minutes later I was back inside to see the end of the Cubs game.
