Running taught me how to set goals and push into, and beyond, the pain that comes with rep after rep after rep. Hills, roads, tracks, more hills. Hard work and dedicated training produces results (that and injury management!).
My inspiration came from Seb Coe in the early days and I watched every race he ran. Like him, my pet distances were 800m and 1500m and for years life was spent running in circles (ironic really). I joined a club later and trained with some amazing athletes over the journey. I once ran at altitude at a training camp and remember doubling over gasping for air like a demented goldfish thinking "so this is what it's like to slowly suffocate - why isn't the air helping!!" as we churned out 300m reps. Seriously one of the toughest things I've done in my life were those last 2 reps. But I'm glad I did. Crazy to some is inspirational to me.LOL.
I never had delusions of making the Olympics or turning pro...but I did want to see how fast I could go and what it would take. I look now at world class athletes running 400m in 60secs and stringing together 13 in a row, sprinting the last 200 in a lazy 25secs. I remain in total awe of their ability, knowing a fraction of how hard it is to run 2 or 3 laps at that pace, and I wonder what motivates and inspires them.

This lovely chunky boulder in Pacific Spirit Park caught our attention on our weekend walk. I think this was Council trail... a trail we tread all the time, but on this day, seemed to have me mystically confused – I thought we were on a new trail I'd never travelled before, heading North. My theory is that the rain had transformed it into something I didn't recognize – a lovely, magical surprise.
Cadets assigned to 3rd and 4th company of Cadet Field Training took to the Confidence Obstacle Course (COC) and the Bull Run Water Confidence Course for their training, July 6, West Point N.Y. 2020.11.08 - This street already was set up as semi pedestrian with speed bumps and green pole barriers ti stop cars from speeding through.. but now add it all this sewar construction and its a short nightmare weaving around everything

Discovering there was no card in the camera was just one of several obstacles I faced last night at my ukulele club. I had hoped to take some great shots, because the Christmas meeting is always awesome -- more than 100 people, lots of performances, people in reindeer antlers -- so much fun!
So I was really motivated to get there. But the traffic was so bad that it took an hour and a quarter to get from my place to the bridge that goes downtown. This is a drive that would normally take five minutes. Ten in traffic.
The next obstacle was parking. The next was squeezing myself into a seat that was wedged between two tables, but it was the only one my friend could save for me. And the final obstacle, as the photo shows: no fekking card in the camera!!! LOL
Had a great time though. :)

This was the most interesting obstacle to me--The one that made me a tiny bit sad not to be doing the event.
