Obsidian Cliff is a culturally and geologically fascinating formation. It was born from cooled lava that flowed from the last major volcanic eruption from Yellowstone's caldera some 180,000 years ago. Obsidian is an exceptionally strong but "chippable" material that performs outstandingly when crafted into knives, spear points, and even modern surgical instruments. The indigenous peoples of North America were well aware of this rich source of obsidian dating back many millennia, and implements made from it have been found in archaeological sites east of the Mississippi and into Canada, indicating its importance as a commodity to North America's earliest peoples.
A quick little tablescrap utilising some bootleg transparent-smoke sockets that turned up amongst one of my second-hand hauls.
Not obsidian. Probably more carboniferous sandstone. Taken at Widemouth Bay near Bude. Anyone got an idea of the geology of the area and care to enlighten?

I am Obsidian , I have returned in this form into darkness. I am a finder of light and I bring it to the dark for Illumination.
We will no longer live in this darkness without hope. I will light the path, follow me out of this chaos.
Order will be restored.
The voice led me to the opening
then down the ladder
with promises of painless
moments and whispers of surety
to always be there
to make that darkness
a little less silent.
Such a fool am I
to climb so willingly
for a belief that dark can lighten dark
and chase pain into shadows
while I tread in the deep waters
reflective of myself
no shimmer of you.
Then one day you broke the manners of quiet
to say that I do not matter however to not
take the silence to mean you do not care
like a dichotomy of personalities.
Since you asked for my silence it is what I have given you like a last parting gift between lovers
you were my dark pool
now you are just my emptiness.
I'm very happy to see a band that I have adored since my teens still doing massively well in 2020.

Photographing them back in 2017 was one of my highlights.
I'm looking forward to better days, disease free days where music can be celebrated properly once again.
