Stopped at the Desert Oaks RA for a break. Camping here would require a RV as the flies were abundant.

Magnificent 300 year old live oaks form an 800 foot long canopy over the walkway from the Mississippi River to the historic plantation named for them. They were planted 100 years before the present plantation house was built in 1837. The plantation is located in Vacherie, Louisiana, and is a National Historic Landmark. It was one of the stops on our Mississippi River cruise from Memphis to New Orleans on an old sternwheeler. It survived Katrina with a lot of broken limbs and downed branches, but no major damage.

It felt amazing to be back in the land of the pines, Live oaks, and warm spring breezes. I really look forward to our trips to Carolina every spring. This trip and the last were a little more special then the others were but i am still grateful for each of them.

This photo was taken at Boone Hall Plantation on a beautiful Spring afternoon with a constant breeze that made getting a decent photo harder then you would think it would be in such a beautiful place.

Oak leaves in the Great High Woods, Durham, England.

This fallen oak leaf was resting on a wooden walkway next to a Michigan forest.

Our little white oak tree has several acorns this year. They grow up so fast.

There are three Jackdaws in the tree. As we walked up the field a huge flock flew up, must have been over a hundred birds.

Hidden amongst a Birch woodland I found a scattering of ancient Oak. Quite a bit off the beaten track but definitely somewhere I'll be making a beeline too once the autumn colours begin to show.

Another view of Oak Alley.

Oak Alley is an antebellum mansion and plantation located on the Mississippi River near Vacherie, Louisiana. It is protected as a National Historic Landmark. Named after a double row of 300 year old live oaks planted by an unknown person long before the present house was built in 1839.

Anyone planning on a visit to New Orleans or nearby area should set aside at least a half day to visit this photographer's dream shoot.

I'm pretty chuffed how this turned out.

Oak Creek Canyon is on the edge of the Mogollon Rim, an escarpment that runs in a roughly east-west direction across northern Arizona. Flagstaff is just to the north, Sedona just to the south. The road gains 4500 feet of elevation between Sedona and Flagstaff. This is one the five most scenic drives in the U.S. according to Rand McNally. It’s scenic, all right, if you have time to look on the way down!

This is another photo from the trip my sister and I made in 1955, when I was sixteen years old. My camera was a Leica M3, and the film was Kodachrome 25. I had two lenses, 50mm and 35mm Summicrons. My guess is that this was done with the 35mm. Anne had the 50mm Summicron and a 90mm Elmar. As with all photos on that trip, I metered with a Weston Master II.

A veneration of oak trees comes from pagan times, when they were of religious significance.

simplicity, no exiting light, no impressive landscapes, but just an oak on a boring grey day.

But I like it

So many nice spots on the edge of this trail. The photo shows the vast sweep both in depth as well as width as this area runs away from you going down towards the river below. Oaks dominate the tree variety but the lone birch I thought was visually pleasing.

With near record temperatures on tap for the next few days in Arizona, here's a scene to help cool things down. This autumn image of rip-roaring Oak Creek near Sedona does the trick for me!
