I was having lunch on my back deck and I heard the rustle of leaves. When I looked down, I saw two fawns playing alongside their mother, who was busily munching on poison oak. One ventured into a clearing, looked up, and I got the shot.

The oak titmouse...a cute and lively little bird!

I’ve always wondered why they called this olive-colored bird an “orange-crowned warbler”, but in this photo, the touch of orange is slightly visible! Avila Beach, CA

Tiny oak titmouse in his happy place!

The Porsche 911 (pronounced Nine Eleven or German: Neunelf) is a two-door, 2+2 high performance sports car made since 1963 by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany. It has a rear-mounted six cylinder boxer engine and all round independent suspension. It has undergone continuous development, though the basic concept has remained little changed. The engines were air-cooled until the introduction of the Type 996 in 1998, with Porsche's "993" series, produced in model years 1995-1998, being the last of the air-cooled Porsches. The Eurasian Jay is a striking member of the crow family, recognised for its pinkish-brown plumage, bright blue and black wing patches, and white rump. It inhabits woodlands, parks, and gardens across Europe and parts of Asia. Known for its intelligence, the jay is an expert mimic and often imitates other birds’ calls. It plays an important ecological role by caching acorns, helping to regenerate oak forests. Typically shy and secretive, it’s more often heard than seen, giving loud, harsh calls when alarmed.

I watched as this tiny blue-gray gnatcatcher danced among the gnarled branches like a forest sprite!

The walk from Venford reservoir down to reach the river Dart was one of the most stunning nature trails we have done so far. The forest is truly magical, moss and lichen everywhere and the little brook leading into the bigger river offered countless photo opportunities.

The Nissan 350Z (known as Nissan Fairlady Z Z33 in Japan) is a two-seat sports car that was manufactured by Nissan Motors from 2002 to 2009 and marks the fifth generation of Nissan's Z-car line. The 350Z entered production in late 2002 and was sold and marketed as a 2003 model. The first year there was only a coupe, as the roadster did not debut until the following year. Initially, the coupe came in base, Enthusiast, Performance, Touring and Track versions, while the roadster was limited to Enthusiast and Touring trim levels. The Track trim came with lightweight wheels and Brembo brakes, but its suspension tuning was the same as all other coupes. The Nissan 350Z has been succeeded by the 370Z for the 2009 model year. Over the past year I've been working on a photography project focusing on the oak forests of Oregon and Washington. The drive out to these areas is lengthy and the likelihood of a successful images is rather low so it's been a slowly evolving project for sure. BUT, I I'm addicted. Nothing beats being in these forests and driving roads I've never been on before. Potential exists around every corner. The prospect of stumbling upon something magical which keeps me going. This is one small example of such a moment...

Camera: Mamiya Six Automat I (6x6 cm)

Lens: Olympus D'Zuiko f/3.5 7.5 cm

Film: Ilford PanF 50, rated @ ISO 40

Exposure: 1/100 sec and f/3.5, hand-held

Film developed and scanned by Foto Brell, Bonn

Edited under Adobe Lightroom

This forest scene was in such low light that the photo also became a hand-held test of the old Mamiya Six with the aperture wide open and a relatively long exposure time. I was pleasantly surprised at the acceptable level of sharpness in the center area. The edge area of Tessar-type lenses is always more or less soft when the aperture is open. The soft shutter release mechanism and the relatively heavy weight of the camera apparently allow longer shutter speeds.

Another impression from the fantastic woodland lining the river Dart on Dartmoor. It's part of the temperate rainforests of Southwest Britain and far larger than the famous Wistman's Wood while having similar ancient oak trees covered in lichen and ferns. Fantastic in all seasons!
