Het land van de wizzard van Ozz is rond de kerstdagen altijd al een bedevaartsoord voor fotografen, aangezien er daar ondanks de feestdagen bijna altijd nog wel activiteit is. Daar waar dit soort excursies de laatste jaren bijna altijd grauwe plaatjes opleveren was dit op 30 december 2016 zeker niet het geval! In dat jaar werd de last mile naar de OOC nog uitgevoerd door de gele 691 en werd die koude morgen naar Oss gereden in de hoop deze hippel in actie te treffen. En in Oss heb je altijd wel geluk en dus bleek er die nacht een dunne witte laag uitgesneeuwde mist te zijn gevallen hier en was de 691 ook aktief. Nadat deze een lege graantrein op het emplacement had achter gelaten werd een gereed staande sleep ketelwagens richting de stamlijn aangehaakt. Onder heerlijk winterse omstandigheden in een fraai winterzonnetje zien we de trein hier de eenzame en kleumende fotograaf passeren richting Elzenburg.

Ossa bei Geithain befindet sich auf einem markanten Bergsporn über dem Ossabach, womit es sich um eine idealtypische Lage für eine mittelalterliche (oder gar ältere) Wehranlage handelt. Ein Herrensitz ist bereits für das Jahr 1269 belegt und eine Adelsfamilie "de Ozze" ist bereits aus dem Jahr 1222 bekannt. Der Bereich um das Herrenhaus und die weithin sichtbare Kirche zeigt mit der Ummauerung noch immer einen Wehrcharakter. Die Lutherkirche scheint in ihrem Kern auf das 12. Jahrhundert zurückzugehen. Die erhaltenen romanischen Bauteile umfassen die Westseite, die südliche Umfassungsmauer und das Chorhaupt. Der Turm entstammt dem 13. Jahrhundert, während zum Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts der romanische Kirchenbau gotisch erneuert wurde.
Much of the area we were walking through had been cleared of trees. I'm not quite sure why they'd done this but all that was left were tree stumps and branches. What we'd lost through the lack of trees was more than made up for by the stunning views. I shot this panorama on the way down from the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye. It was a new path put in to presumably ease problems associated with soil erosion caused by the increasing numbers of walkers wanting to visit the area.
It was late in the afternoon so there weren't many people about. The path reminded me of the Wizards of Ozz's yellow brick road. Yes, I know it isn't yellow nor made of bricks but it did have that feel of expectation and a sense of journey.
Handheld, pseudo 5 exposure hdr -3 to +2 all created off the original RAW exposure which itself was made up of 4 shots merged in photoshop to form this panoramic image. Pp with acr, photomatix, photoshop, & topaz clarity. Fuji X-E2 with 18-55 f2.8-4 at 18mm, f11, ISO 200 exposure 1/60 sec.
