aka Crown of Thorns...The crown of thorns can grow from the size of a grain of sand to the size of a dinner plate. An exceptionally large crown of thorns can grow to be the size of a car tire. Divers kill these predators by injecting their own stomach acid into each of their many legs. If even one leg is missed the sea star can live on. Before overpopulation, crown of thorns kept the fast growing coral from overpowering the slower growing coral. Now it destroys coral mercilessly.

TIKAL NATIONAL PARK
Tikal National Park encompasses 575 square kilometres of jungle and thousands of ruined structures. The central part of the ancient city alone contains 3,000 buildings and covers about 16 square kilometers.
Tikal is also part of the one-million-hectare Maya Biosphere Reserve created in 1990 to protect the dense forests of the Peten, which started to disappear at an alarming rate due to population pressures, illegal logging and slash-and-burn agricultural practices. Archeologists estimate that the Maya settled in the area now known as Tikal in about 900 BC.
Tikal grew into an important ceremonial, cultural, and commercial centre over the centuries. Most of the city's huge temples were constructed during the eighth century AD when Tikal became the greatest city in the Maya world with a population of perhaps 100,000. Like Maya complexes on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Tikal fell into decline at the end of the ninth century and was virtually abandoned. The causes of the Maya empire's collapse remain a mystery, but wars, famine, overpopulation and resource depletion have all been blamed.
Tikal's great stone monuments languished for centuries and were gradually reclaimed by the jungle. Hernan Cortes, the conqueror of Mexico, and his motley band of conquistadors marched by Tikal in 1525, but they failed to see its temples concealed by 40-metre-tall silk, cotton, cedar and mahogany trees. It wasn't until 1848 that an expedition sent out by the Guatemalan government officially discovered the ruins. Swiss, German and British archeologists soon followed to clear debris and begin studying the site.

That is, if not all of the planet's population is in demand for work, and not all of the population is provided with resources for subsistence, then they say that the planet is overpopulated with people.

I went for a walk along Metroplex Avenue where I have previously found sacred kingfishers, swans with cygnets and a buff banded rail to name a few. Today, possibly due to recent heavy rain, I found an overpopulation of ibis, a dead possum and a lot of plastic litter against the grass.
They are at the grand opening of the National Capital Area Spay/Neuter Center, which has the capacity for performing 75 sterilization surgeries per day. It will help Washington Humane Society and other animal rescue organizations in the region prevent pet overpopulation and end euthanization of adoptable dogs and cats.
It is ALWAYS better to offer fixed kittens for a price, not Free Kittens. When you give an animal away for free it implies that they are worthless and disposable. When they aren't fixed, you will never know if that kitten you are giving away will add to the pet overpopulation problem or not. Kittens can be fixed at 8 weeks of age.

The only problem with summer in the city is that it's virtually impossible to go anywhere without people.
Of course the fact that I took a picnic lunch on June 30 meant I was already with people.
Still it was sort of annoying when I took two shots of the reflection off the Alonti building (I have no idea what it's actually called) and there was a person in it.
Now, of course, I've been taking an insane amount of candids lately so I shouldn't mind this. But somehow I do when I want no people in my shots.

He ends up on the run from a police force known as 'time keepers'.

With Lebensraum, I want to invite each participant to use their own muscle power to control the growth of our species. I have reduced the real conditions we are facing to a form of physical experiment. Why My Pet Supports The HSUS: I support the HSUS because I am a rescued cat myself! I was not adopted from a shelter, but instead from underneath someone's mobile home. Pet overpopulation is a huge problem especially in communities where pet care and pet spaying/neutering are not the biggest concerns. My forever home is shared with 2 loving servants (also known as humans) and 3 other felines. I'm the leader of the household. I may be beautiful, but I'm dangerous! I hope all cats get to live out their senior years (I'm 13 years old) in a loving and caring home just like mine- although they are not invited to my house in particular because I don't share well!

Ever since I was a boy in Raasay
and became aware of the differences between the history I read in books
and the oral accounts I heard around me,
I have been very sceptical of what might be called received history;
the million people for instance who died in Ireland in the nineteenth century;
the million more who had to emigrate;
the thousands of families forced from their homes in the Highlands and Islands.
Why was all that?
Famine? Overpopulation? Improvement? The Industrial Revolution? Expansion overseas?
You see not many of these people understood such words,
they knew only Gaelic.
But we know now another set of words:
clearance, empire, profit, exploitation,
and today we live with the bitter legacy of that kind of history.
Our Gaelic language is threatened with extinction,
our way of life besieged by the forces of international big business,
our countries beggared by bad communication,
our culture is vitiated by the sentimentality of those who have gone away.
We have, I think, a deep sense of generation and community
but this has in so many ways been broken.
We have a history of resistance, but now mainly in the songs we sing.
Our children are bred for emigration.

Our organization is called Elgin Alley Cats and we are located in Elgin, TX (population about 8,000). We are a small group of volunteers that traps and releases feral and homeless cats after they have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated for rabies. Feral cats don't like to be moved, so after their vet visit we return them to the colonies where they come from. These vet services are paid for by an organization in Austin and are free to our Elgin citizens. It is an effective and humane way of addressing the stray cat overpopulation.
