"Light Overcomes the Darkness"- We set out to shoot the Rocky Valley Lutheran Church in the ghost town of Dooley, Montana during the night. We got there early enough to set up and take a few shots as the Sun started to set. This church made it until around 1960, when a declining congregation and inability to support a pastor caused it to call it quits. It was sold to a local farmer for grain storage, but currently sits empty and decaying on the prairie.
These photos tell the story of a one-legged Red-tailed Hawk and its ability to hunt successfully despite the obvious challenges. It was sitting on a lamp post, scanning the ground below when it suddenly took off and successfully caught a vole on the ground.
I have been seeing this hawk off and on in a local park for almost two months now and always marveled at its ability to overcome the challenges thrown at it. It appears that it lost part of its right leg, could be when it was very young or it was born that way. Whatever the reason, it has adapted well to survive to adulthood. It is difficult for a bird to survive in the wild with only leg, and it is more so for birds of prey that rely on their talons to capture prey. However, this brave bird did well so far and I sincerely hope that it finds a partner in the Spring to continue with its triumphant march. Downsview Park, Toronto.
About rising, building, looking up, looking forward.
I just ended a horrible and inconvenient part of my life. It feels...magical...?....!
(also, these make me feel like I am 10)
OVERCOMING
3-bracketed shot blended in Photoshop. The red glow around the bottom half of the moon is actually the bokeh from the small bush on the left. The sun had just set less than an hour before the moon peaked from the mountain. I don't know who the guy is but thanks buddy for being still. =) Shot at the Whitney Mesa hill.

After the photographers left, I made a few images. I liked this one the best.
As always, thoughtful feedback, constructive criticisms, and suggestions are always appreciated. As always, I have used tools at my disposal to interpret the original raw file. Use of this photo without permission is not permitted. Contact me if you would like to use it.
The Black Hole is located just to the south of Craster on the way to Cullernose Point on the coastline in Northumberland. It was fantastic watching the rough sea crashing over the black rocks as the sun made its appearance.
Last remnant of a plant swallowed up by the drifting sand in a moving dune field. Emery County, Utah.
"Overcoming:" A storm cloud appears as if is about to envelope Granite Mountain as seen through this ridgeline of the Granite Dells. This photo is available in 1:2 aspect ratio sizes (10 x 20, etc.). Taken on a different evening, but same location as my last photo because I love the Century plants and know that once they bloom, they have a limited time left.

When we left off, the 3-Tilden was backing onto it's train that had stalled on the grade through Palmer Line Jct. to New Buffalo Road. The rain had just stopped but the sanders still weren't helping much.
As a small railroad it can be easy to forget what a great show the LS&I puts on. It was very impressive to watch the engineer's skill on display as the old GEs spooled up and started to lean in against the opposing pull of the ore loads. No great burps of smoke here just full effort as the train started to inch up the hill almost imperceptibly.
The tailing hills at the north end of the Empire Mine loom above the action and partially successful replanting can be seen. In a few months the rest of the mine will be quiet as this 50+ year operation closes up.

With God there is no limit to what you can do. There is no obstacle you can't overcome. Through Him all things are possible.

Mom and I are TERRIFIED of spiders. So while at the museum we decided to overcome our fears and hold the two tarantulas they had out for people to handle. They were actually very soft feeling and light as a feather. My only regret is that no one was around to take my picture as proof. These are my mom's hands.
A lightly armored unmanned tank that thanks to its artificial muscle tentacles has excellent maneuverability and is able to overcome almost any type of rough terrain, such as swamps, mountains or city blockages. Also, the tentacles of this tank have pointed tips, which makes them an effective and terrifying weapon against infantry.
Since I couldn't find menacing enough name for this thing from paleontology, I decided to name it after goddess of death. I built it back in 2019 after seeing this gorgeous monstrosity by Nick. I wanted to take the idea of multiped mechatank further and replace several mechanic legs with many smaller synthetic muscle tentacles to give the whole thing more chthonic look. My model end up being far more simplistic since i'm not that great of a MOCer, but i'm quite happy with the result.
Big thanks to Nick for more suitable name for this machine.

A wonderful friend agreed to pose for this image during a workshop I gave last month! I think we can all agree she's the best. :)

The immensity of our Milky Way galaxy always blows me away every time I see it especially in clear dark skies.
The greuling descent of the 2.2% Kicking Horse Pass grade comes to an end at the grade crossing at Field, BC, the crew change at the bottom of the "Big Hill." Train wreathed in brakeshoe smoke, the five SD40-2's are in full dynamic braking and full set on the train air to bring 8700 tons of train to a stop at 815am on August 20, 1982.

The checkerboard Mesa is located close to the Eastern entrance to the Zion National Park by Zion Canyon Highway 9. This rock formation is really interesting due to the unusually bright colors and the pattern across the sandstone closely resembling that of a checkerboard.
Even if the rock formation is visually interesting it is a rather difficult structure to photograph and the conditions we met with while we were there didn’t make it any easier. I tried three four different compositions but the problem I was encountering was that dues to a complete cloud cover we had that weekend as soon as we move little father from the mesa the colors become rather dull and the picture looks rather bland. Finally I decided to do a workaround and found this nice location which looked like a dried out stream. It had a nice big rock in front as a foreground interest and minimal tree lines but I had to get so close even with a wide angle lens I couldn’t get the entire Mesa in the frame. I really like how nice and bright I got the frame to be and also the vivid colors of the mesa which came through in spite of the dull sky.
Hope all of you like the shot, Enjoy!!
I've had my fun with the silly photos I just posted. And of course I was given a reminder that I might be falling off the wagon. I'm not. The sissy days are long gone.
This passing hasn't worked yet. I can obviously get the clothes right. Like this for example. I could wear this out. I have something on now. I will take some photos in a bit. Cute and passable and I can wear it pretty much anywhere at anytime. But the makeup? I have spent at least six hours today on and off and on again and I simply am terrible at it. My awful posture isn't as bad anymore. My walking has improved. But the makeup is sooo difficult and until that piece clicks in...
I'm a pretender. For those of you who are "real", I get it. Pretenders are disrespectful to the hardship of actually being committed, transitioning, full time etc. and I am sensitive to the messages that are sent by how we present ourselves. I'm trying. I really am. I am fully aware that just putting a dress on, a wig and some lipstick just makes you a hairy pig with lipstick. I am sensitive to the message being sent by how we present ourselves. There's soooo much more to this. I'm struggling with it. Hard. Think I probably ruined what was otherwise a cute dress with those boots. But it's out there and hopefully I'll see a progression. It's not always forward. Sometimes there are steps back too.
The people who know me know this is where I make some proclamation about the end of the world or something. That's not the case. In fact the opposite. The utmost respect to people who live the life with no apologies and all in. I can't be all in so maybe that's the problem. Doesn't matter. I just have to overcome it.
I'm sorry I wrote all this. If you read it thank you for listening. I do feel better. Actually fine and a little more energized. Some photos, some wine and finish the ceiling tonight. Have a good night to the poor souls who read and got through this.
This is my Photo-Heart Connection of June. I had not to think very much because the only photos I have taken along the whole month have been a series of these cherries
The day after I finished checking the paper of my students and once I uploaded their marks, I took my camera. Only a few weeks had passed without taking a single photo, even so, it was like a foreign object in my hand that I didn´t know how to handle. I felt sad and tempted to let it aside, but I had the feeling that this could create a breach, a rupture (...)
