43257 leads EC52 and 43251 over the Devon banks between Totnes and Plymouth on the 24th of August 2019. Cross Country had hired this set for the day whilst Kings Cross was closed to provide additional capacity over the bank holiday weekend. This is on the first LNER HST over the Devon banks that day, 1V46 06:45 York-Plymouth.

This bridge is on the Pacific Highway just south of Sexton's Hill, on the NSW QLD border. Normally you would just drive over and never really take note, however if you take the Chinderah detour and go to the old wooden fishing pier you can see this excellent structure.

The flyway is right over Ocean Shores, with the directional beacon at the end of Tonquin Ave.

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is the world's largest military air show, held annually over the third weekend in July, usually at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, England in support of The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust. The show typically attracts a total of 180,000 to 185,000 spectators over the weekend.

The Red Arrows will be doing a fly-by every day for their last UK show of 2019. A British Airways Boeing 747, painted in its iconic British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) livery, will perform a dramatic flypast with the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team on Saturday.

This year features more than 30 air arms from over 20 different nations, which means the Air Tattoo is the best place to see military aircraft on display to the public. Confirmed aircraft includes two Spanish Navy Harriers, the Ukrainian Su-27, US Air Force F-16 Viper Demo Team, Frecce Tricolori, and RAF F-35B Lightning.

Astronaut Major Tim Peake will be at the airshow on Friday in the Techno Zone as part of this year's Air and Space theme to inspire the next generation of the air force and space industry.

He will be interviewed by Carol Vorderman in the Bader Marquee at 9.30am. The Techno Zone will have an array of space-themed displays and attractions throughout the weekend

A flypast celebrating the 70th anniversary of NATO is planned for Friday and Saturday - the only official NATO flypast taking place at a UK airshow this summer. Saturday's tickets are sold out, so if you haven't booked a ticket yet, Friday will be your only chance to see it.

The flypast will include three RAF Typhoons, a NATO E-3 AWACS, three Belgian and Dutch F-16s, a German A400M, a German EF2000, a German Tornado, a French KC-135R and three American F-15s.

Normally waiting at the airport is absolutely boring, but this time it was fun. I thought that the young lady would never be able to close her suitcase, but with a little help from her friend, who simply sat on it, she managed to squeeze the contents of all her shopping bags in the already well filled suitcase. Wow!

So we had some guests over tonight, who left around 10PM and I was like, uhh, wtf am I gonna shoot today? Oh yeah, I saw the moon rising out our living room window, let's take a lame pic of it with the Pentacon or something.

So I take a few snaps with the Pentacon thinking "This is gonna be such a lame shot :LOLOLOLOL:" when I realize there's this dot just to the east of the moon, and when I say just to the east of the moon, I mean like really, immediately to the east.

And if you've looked at the night sky and the moon's path and the celestial equator enough, you immediately realize, in situations like this: "shit, the moon's gonna occult that SOB tonight, mama!" And that mama is a screamin' bright star, what with it being so visible on a near full moon night, so close to her majesty.

So I hop on my Mac, fire up Stellarium, and sho'nuff, Antares, the red giant is on a celestial collision (or, more like it, obliteration) course with the moon. Unfortunately, here in Boston, we were just ever so slightly too north to see Antares be hidden by the moon, but it's gonna get damn close. And it's gonna happen in a little over an hour.

So, I run to my room, bring out my Celestar that hasn't been put to use in sooooo long, and set it up inside by the living room window, and start firing away.

This is one of the better shots, taken very close to the moment of conjunction. Schaweet.

Here's a little tidbit. The path of the moon across the night sky is called 白道, or the White Path in Japanese and it's tilted about 5 degrees from the ecliptic (the path of the sun). And, of course, if you know your zodiac, you know that Scorpio is along the ecliptic (which is why it's one of the 12 signs).

So, what does it mean that a nearly full moon is occulting Antares, located in Scorpio, which is along the ecliptic?

It means that the White Path is crossing the ecliptic close to the new/full moon (cuz, you know, any two circles that go around a sphere with the same diameter will always cross each other exactly twice at polar opposite ends). What does that mean? It means, we're nearing that time of the year when there's a solar eclipse to be seen somewhere (and there's always a solar eclipse to be seen somewhere on this planet at least once a year).

Which one is that?

I'll tell you which one. It's the one I'm going to go see next month, baby :-))))))))))))

My friend brought be a super delicious birthday treat tonight - the "Over the Moon" cupcake from Dreamcakes bakery in Birmingham. It is a white velvet cupcake with buttercream filling, vanilla bean frosting & white chocolate curls.

Have I died and gone to heaven? I'm in love with all of these awesome cupcake shops that are springing up all over the place!

WIT: I have accumulated several pick heads over the years. At first a few was OK to have around for landscaping projects, but then the seemed to multiply. For this shot I arranged the chunks of iron on the garage floor with the afternoon sun providing the lighting. For post processing I adjusted the tonal contrast to emphasis the rusty texture of the iron and the cement floor.
