Okay, it's not actually within our backyard, but it's just beyond it. The yard behind our house borders a large park that is just being developed. The park was recently seeded, and the straw was put down as mulch. I took this shot while standing on our backyard deck. I think these Sandhill Cranes must have been eating the grass seed.
I know that there's not a lot going on in this image. But I rather like the repetitive poses of the birds, and I thought it was kind of cool that I could get this shot without leaving home, so I decided to go with it. The abundance of Sandhill Cranes in the area near our new home in Michigan has been one of the pleasant surprises of living here.
A Common Snipe and a Redshank take a well earned break from their hectic search for small invertebrates and crustaceans along the coastal section of RSPB Leighton Moss. As far as I could tell, worms and small crabs topped the day's Specials Menu.
Taken last year in the Netherlands. Few more weeks and I will see those again.
I wish there was a different windmill in the background tho.

It was pouring down relentless sheets of rain and a small group of band-tails landed in the buckeye. As the rain got even harder several of these native birds began to raise and open their wings fully to take in the opportunity for a complete bath....it was a truly remarkable sight to see this behavior in a complete downpour up in the trees on the greyest of winter days
many thanks for stopping by to visit and share....risa
Somewhere between Vardø and Hamningberg. Fantastic ragged coastline facing the Barents Sea. Not a place to be in the winter!

Madrid has spectacular skies. Every day we were there, clear skies gave way to clouds as sunset approached, always richly textured and never the same.
Enjoying some solitude at the punch bowl waterfall. I'm sure later in the day this place was crawling with people. But early in the morning, I had it all to myself.
