Osaka Castle, Japan
Osaka Castle is a very impressive structure that is situated in the Osaka Castle Park and is surrounded by a sizeable moat. I visited this castle post-sunset on Monday evening having opted to shoot the nearby little building that is The Sanctuary.
On walking around the moat and into the grounds via the drawbridge, the size of the park becomes very apparent. I personally loved the trees that offered some interest in the image when photographing the castle and the inclusion of the street lights added an extra dimension. I loved the castle and found there to be numerous compositions on offer. I shall definitely be bringing my clients along to this location on my April 2024 Japan photography workshop.
For those interested, Osaka Castle was originally completed in 1586 as a display of power and grandeur by the samurai warlord and ruler of Japan, Toyotomi Hideyoshi after accomplishing his goal of unifying Japan. The impressive castle took only three years to complete, thanks to the hard work of around 100,000 workers. theculturetrip.com/asia/japan/articles/a-brief-history-of...

Daruma dolls at the Katsuō-ji Temple near Osaka.
From Wikipedia:
A Daruma doll is a hollow, round, Japanese traditional doll modelled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. These dolls, though typically red and depicting the Indian monk, Bodhidharma, vary greatly in colour and design depending on region and artist. Though considered a toy by some, Daruma has a design that is rich in symbolism and is regarded more as a talisman of good luck to the Japanese. Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement. The doll has also been commercialized by many Buddhist temples to use alongside the setting of goals.
Osaka Castle is one of the city’s most famous landmarks.
Inside the castle is a museum showcasing its history and on the eighth floor is an observation deck with a panoramic view of the city.
The construction of Osaka Castle (大阪城, Ōsakajō) started in 1583 on the former site of the Ishiyama Honganji Temple, which had been destroyed by Oda Nobunaga thirteen years earlier. Toyotomi Hideyoshi intended the castle to become the center of a new, unified Japan under Toyotomi rule. It was the largest castle at the time.
From Wikipedia: Shinsekai (新世界, lit. New World) is an old neighbourhood located next to south Osaka City's downtown "Minami" area. The neighbourhood was created in 1912 with New York (specifically, Coney Island) as a model for its southern half and Paris for its northern half. At this location, a Luna Park amusement park operated from 1912 until it closed in 1923. The centrepiece of the neighbourhood was Tsutenkaku Tower (the "tower reaching to heaven").
As a result of minimal redevelopment after World War II, the area has become one of Japan's poorest.
あべのハルカスに行きました。
午後から空は曇り、夕日を諦めていましたが、雲間の夕日は空と大阪湾を染めてくれました。
I went to Abeno Harukas.
Sky is cloudy in the afternoon, but had given up the sunset, clouds of sunset gave me dyed the sky and Osaka Bay.
