My father operated a fancy German automobile deep behind the Iron Curtain...and I was in love with it. Given the currency exchange rate the running cost for this car was astronomical - perhaps akin to running a Ferrari.
I still love cars and VW bugs have a special place in my heart.

Sometimes, but only sometimes, the scanner buzzes across the screen and I see an image that excites me. I often can't wait until the other shots of the film are scanned, that's how much enthusiasm I have... This is such a picture. Just as it comes out of the scanner...

The film is rated at ISO 400 (don't let the name fool you!). However, on the first test roll all shots were significantly underexposed. So I shot the second roll at ISO 100, which turned out a lot better. The colour rendering is a bit cool and also rather contrasty, but many people like it that way. The definition is not very good, which is a bit disappointing for a film that is effectively quite slow. In this particular shot that doesn't matter so much.

Okay, I like these a lot more than I first expected. They are clean, contrasty, and sharp. Sure, there's a bit of visible grain, but overall, it adds to the sharpness. The contrast is deep and rich, exactly what I expect from a cinefilm! I think the bit of overexposure and slight pull in development work perfectly, although I could have developed them at the listed nine minutes.

A couple of frames to illustrate the point of the Divided D76H, highlight preservation. The Courtyard has lovely shiny tiles so reflects the light beautifully and it was kind when I walked past. The stairs were a sunny sixteen challenge as well. There the lamp isn't blown out yet there is great shadow detail.
The developer is actually a variant on the Vestal divided D76. He couldn't remember on mixing if the sulphite went in A or B bath so split between them. The H is added as this formula looses the Hydroquinone but boosts the metol and borax, I ran 5mins in both baths with continuous gentle agitation.

I bet you didn't know you can grow palm trees outside in Ireland! Certain varieties are pretty common in Dublin. The weather is mild most of the year. Almost never hot and rarely below freezing.
This is another shot from my first time out with the ORWO N75. Very pleased with it so far and will be shooting a lot more. The tonality from this film is really nice in my opinion. The grain is noticeable, but works well a lot of the time.

First off, it's really daft to take a film with a box ISO rating of 400 and call it "NC 500". No need to even discuss it. It's daft.
Secondly, it's just as daft to take a film that's really ISO 200 or less, perhaps somewhere between 100 and 160, and rate it at ISO 400. What do they think, the customers won't notice?
I feel that each and every shot on the first test roll would have come out quite all right if shot at 1 -2 EV more. They're all too flat and grainy, but in essence, the colours seem to look OK, there is no halation, the shadows aren't drowned out, nuances and hues are all there. So now I know, and I'll never make the mistake of shooting this at ISO 400 again.
