After running south as lite power from GV to River Valley, thankfully the L518 picked up a boxcar and then 2 gons from Standard Steel. Having met the ore loads at Carter, they are sprinting the last miles back to GV passing the farm at Orr Rd, Milepost 71. My first shots of 878 leading.
Today I turned 71 years of age. I will celebrate (in part) with sketching Saturn and Mars this evening. The 155mm refractor is all set up and ready to go. Just waiting for the sun to go down. I have plenty of time to go eat more birthday cake.

Manifest traffic marches along the CN Rainy Subdivision approaching the US 53 overpass bridge near Orr, Minnesota. Two years ago I managed to get a photo on the same overpass of a train heading north, so it was great to grab some activity heading south. I look forward to getting a photo with the giant Bluegill fish in town.
New power on the Lancaster and Chester Railroad was on Train 12 on May 23rd. The first two motors are a new model built by Knoxville Locomotive Works they have designated as a KLW SE32C. These are still pretty rare as KLW has only produced five such models.

Das Haus Orr war ein Rittergut im heutigen Pulheim im Rhein-Erft-Kreis in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Das Gebäude sowie das zugehörige ehemalige Wirtschaftsgut Kriegshof sind heute noch vorhanden.
Haus Orr und sein ehemaliger Wirtschaftshof Kriegshof liegen zurückgesetzt an der Landstraße zwischen Pulheim und Esch im Pulheimer Ortsteil Orr.
Das Gelände von Haus Orr umfasste eine Parkanlage, zu der ein Weiher mit zwei unterschiedlich großen Inseln gehörte. Auf der kleineren Insel stand vermutlich einmal eine Burganlage.
In der ersten urkundlichen Erwähnung 1264 wurde Orr als „Urre“ bezeichnet. Im 13. Jahrhundert war ein Jh. Friedrich von Gyltling Herr von Orr. 1342 schenkte Gobelinus von Udenkoven dem Konvent von St. Severin Ländereien des Ortes.
Der Kölner Erzbischof und der Herzog von Jülich-Berg stritten sich ab 1576 um die Landeshoheit. Da sie sich die Hohe und Niedere Gerichtsbarkeit teilten, konnte zeitweilig eine Besteuerung der Orrer Landleute nicht erfolgen.
Das zweigeschossige Herrenhaus wurde um 1838, vom Bankier Peter Daniel Koch, nach Plänen des Kölner Dombaumeisters Ernst Friedrich Zwirner erbaut. Die Erben Kochs verkauften die Anlage an Werner Pagenstecher.
Nach dem Krieg war das Herrenhaus noch bewohnt, wurde aber später aufgegeben und verfiel teilweise, so dass eine Notsicherung vorgenommen werden musste, um das Gebäude zu erhalten. Die Überreste des Daches und der Decken wurden dabei entfernt und Anker eingezogen um wenigstens die Außenmauern zu erhalten. Der Landschaftspark verwilderte und die Teichanlagen trockneten aus.
Seit 2010 wurde das Herrenhaus Orr vom neuen Eigentümer behutsam revitalisiert. Das Herrenhaus Orr wurde renoviert und erhielt 2013 ein neues Walmdach und Fenster, womit es bei Veranstaltungen des Fördervereins Rittergut Orr e.V. wieder nutzbar ist.
Der neugotische Profanbau des zweigeschossigen Herrenhauses verfügte über turmartige Eckbauten, die dem Gebäude das Erscheinungsbild einer mächtigen gotischen Burgarchitektur geben sollten. Der dreiachsige, südlich gelegene Vorbau gehörte zum Hauptwohnbereich des Gebäudes. Die hinter einem Zinnenkranz gelegenen Dienstbotenräume bedeckte ehemals ein Walmdach.
Dem Gebäudebau folgte zuerst die Anlage eines kleinen Parks, der sich bis zu den östlich gelegenen Weihern erstreckte. Werner Pagenstecher ließ den kleinen Park ab 1887 zu einem Landschaftspark ausbauen, dessen Mittelpunkt die im Weiher gelegene kleinere Insel war.

16. The Bradley House, The Anchorage & Log Cabin Museums of Mississauga
(c. 1830) 1620 Orr Road
Bradley House is believed to be the only surviving residence of the original families of Merigold’s Point. Lewis Bradley, a United Empire Loyalist, received a Crown land grant in 1810 and constructed a log cabin. He and his wife Elizabeth (nee Merigold) constructed this one-and-a-half storey saltbox-style farmhouse around 1830. It has been restored and furnished to reflect daily life in that era, and has been open as a public museum since 1967. Although moved from its original location close to the lake, the building still stands on part of the original 200 acre Bradley farm. The Museum site also features The Anchorage, a Regency-style cottage built circa 1830, which was once the home of retired British Naval Commander, John Skynner. On his retirement in 1839, Skynner is said to have remarked: “Here I will rest; this will be my anchorage.” The house was originally located on the lakeshore, a short distance west, near Lakeside Park. This Regency-style dwelling was occupied by the Skynner family until 1853. In 1978 the building was donated and moved to this site, and today provides gallery space, meeting rooms, offices, and artifact storage facilities for the Museums. The mid-19th century log cabin is the newest addition to the site. First built near Mono Mills, the cabin was moved to Port Credit as a Centennial project of the local Rovers and Scouts. Slated for demolition in 2002, it was saved by the fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Museums of Mississauga.

I took this yesterday at Orr Park in Montevallo. Nice little park with a pretty stream running through it. The carvings of Tim Tingle on the dead cedar trees are there. I will post some more of the carvings later. I already have a few in my photostream.

Before the acquisition of a small fleet of road switchers, South Carolina shortline Lancaster & Chester’s roster had been dominated by EMD switchers for several decades. Here SW900 91 stands near the wye at Orrs, South Carolina.
Southbound CN manifest is just about to pass under Highway 53 and through the northern Minnesota metropolis of Orr.

Joella Orr, Director of the Denton Public Library. Mrs. Orr was great at finding where the money was (and a state grant), and she filled up the library a lot quicker than anyone expected. She was Emily Fowler's successor, and she was a member of an old Denton County family--the Allens. You can find an interview with her father that I conducted for the library in the library's collection.. Her interest in local history was sincere, and she started the oral history program at the Emily Fowler Library. She also got E. J. Headlee to donate his collection of his own publication--DENTON DOINGS--to the library. These are a gold mine of Denton social history. NOTE: NOT ALL MY THANK YOUS ARE BEING SAVED. The day after Showbus 2007. Huddersfield bound X6 bus ended up down an embankment in some body's garden, im not sure what happend but it was a very serious accident.
Say hello to E-ORR 47 Delta - The Exploration and Observational Roving Robot. (don't worry its not pessimistic, gloomy or depressed)
Coming from a long history of remote autonomous rovers dating back to the late 20th century and beyond the E-ORR series uses the latest onboard research and diagnostic equipment. Armed with a variant of A.R.C. Bot AI this little rover as the ability to adapt to it's environment and react quickly to any changes. E-ORR's are powered by a micro-fusion powerplant with redundant backup solar panels.
E-ORR 47 Delta is persevering the elements in a particularly harsh region of this new planet Nova Team is currently exploring. It seems down inside of a large crater, the little rover has discovered a small deposit of Staridium ore.

Some days ago I saw the first barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) this year, hunting for insects outside our house.
I knew that they and the other common swallow species had been reported back already, but it's something special when you see them for the first time that year yourself, as that delightful proof of spring.
Since I haven't photographed them yet- here is one from the archive.

Captain Orr returned to south western Pennsylvania from his captivity at Montreal whither he had been sent for exchange after his capture with others taken at the massacre of Lochry's party in 1781. In the summer of 1783 he raised another company for the defense of the frontier to serve two months. He marched them to the mouth of Bull creek, northwest of the Allegheny river, built a blockhouse there, and served out the necessary term.
The replica pictured above stands at the mouth of Bull Creek.
