Tynemouth Beach, earlier this year during a visit by the Mighty Mr D. Whitaker, who is just out of shot, obviously the orb is inquisitive as to who this fella is, and why he's jumping about at low tide burning steelwool and waving lights.

A different perspective. It seems as if the spider has placed markers on the web to prevent things from accidently running through it and tearing it down. With all that amazingly complicated work, who could blame it.

Or is that the right side up? :0)

Lovely orb weaver chilling on a branch below its web. 101-shot focus stack, focus bracketing.

These beautiful glass orbs were floating throughout the reflection pools. Photographed at the Biltmore Estate, Asheville, North Carolina, USA.

Photo taken under my back steps, noticed the jewelled web when hosing the plants. Also known as "St Andrews Cross spider"

Whilst I am not able to positively identify this chap, I am convinced he is an old weaving spider.

A Queenland Museum 2008 publication says there are 60 species of Orb Weaving Spiders in the Greater Brisbane area and most are yet to be identified - so no wonder I have having difficulty.

I just love the orbs of light that these raindrops become on an overcast day. It's all about the light.

In case any body was wandering, the last few post were dew drops on the fuzzy floaty thing on top of 1 thistle seed...

Unfortunately, the only view I had was the underside (ventral) view. However, I think this is the Cross Orb Weaver so named because of the cross mark on the abdomen.

It may not be for some but I decided to spin the photo around to try a different viewing perspective.

Orb weaver spinning a web. I watch this spider put out a web each evening as the sun goes down and then take it down in the morning.

Just as the aurora was fading last night I couldn't resist spinning a quick orb!

Another scene from that magical morning on the prairie.

Queen B wears the Black Bird Society gown (borrowed from Nina-chan) with a Ilaria OOAK hard cap wig.

Inque wears Blodhound pieces mixed with Slippers lingerie and a Ilaria OOAK hard cap wig.

My new girl Raja wears Orb dress combined with the inside out Love skirt as a mermaidtail and the restyled Swallow wig.

My new girl Raja wears emiliacouture Oneirophenia with hose and shoes from Sybarite Cross, and a mohair wig.

A gorgeous orb weaver spider (iNat suggests Alpaida sp.) in Brazil. Seen resting on a leaf during the day in fairly thick brush, waiting for dusk to begin building a web. A cool little detail is the pair of small spines, one on either side of the thick part of the abdomen. There is also a sparse scaffolding of silk on the leaf, probably to help the spider hold on.

nighttime backyard photo...is that a ghostly orb on the left?

Here's a nice example of a Golden Silk Orb-weaver, or a "Banana Spider."

We saw tons of these at JN "Ding" Darling NWR (Sanibel Island, FL), but thankfully they mainly build their webs high enough that I didn't walk right into any.
