The Mazu jinxiang (媽祖進香), or offering of incense, involves thousands of pilgrims following Mazu’s jiao（轎）or palanquin by foot, on her spontaneous journey to the sacred first Mazu temple in Taiwan. For over a century the Goddess of the Sea, Mazu (媽祖 lit. Mother Ancestor) devotees from the Gongtian Temple in Baishatun, Miaoli County, have flocked to Beigang’s Chaotian Temple in Yunlin County for an annual 400-plus km pilgrimage in the 2nd Lunar month of the year. They participate for the blessings, protection and fortune of Mother Mazu, who was said to protect the fishermen and sailors on the high seas when she was a human being, known as Lin Moniang.

I saw her at the end of the day, too, and she was still rocking the fit. I expected to see her in jeans and flip-flops.

800 or so years ago the Akan were producing these brass weights to weigh gold dust which was their currency, thus the name 'goldweights'.
They were produced by all the Akan people in both Ghana and Ivory Coast. These weights are unique to the Akan and found exclusively in the areas that they occupy.
So far the earliest archaeological evidence of goldweights comes from excavations conducted in the 1990's at Adansemanso in the Ashanti region dating from about 1200-1400. The find showed that the full technological complex associated with measuring gold dust was developed by that time.

L'església de Santpedor es un edifici d'una sola nau cobert amb voltes de creueria en cinc trams més el del presbiteri. La nau aprofita part dels murs de l'antiga església romànica. A cada costat de la nau hi ha capelles que coincideixen amb cadascun dels cinc trams de la nau. Al costat de l'altar i presbiteri hi ha la sagristia i el campanar modern construït el segle XX car l'antic romànic fou ensorrat el 1897. Dues de les capelles laterals foren ampliades al segle XVIII (la de les Stes. Espeines) i al XIX (la capella dels Dolors).
Portada romànica, amb restes de policromia, formada per dos arcs de mig punt adovellats en degradació i rematats per una arquivolta a mena de cornisa. Els arcs estan sostinguts per un parell de columnes totalment llises amb quatre capitells decorats amb temes vegetals i historiats: el pecat original, desenvolupat en dues escenes i les Tres Maries. El timpà acull una figura de Jesucrist en Majestat amb els peus damunt d'un coixí i beneint amb la mà dreta. L'acompanyen els quatre animals apocalíptics o Tetramorfs símbols dels Evangelistes. El tema és rematat per una inscripció llatina "IHS XPS FILIUS MARIE". Es tracta d'un programa iconogràfic que es pot resumir com una síntesi en la que s'oposen l'Antic i el Nou Testament en el tema del pecat i la redempció d'aquest presidit pel judici final.
L'església de Sant Pere d'Or que ha donat nom al municipi i poble és documentada ja l'any 996. La meitat de l'església i de la vila que va néixer a redós de la sagrera eren propietat del monestir de Sant Benet de Bages per donació comtal. Al segle XIV la meitat de l'església resten fou entregada a la diòcesis de Vic. Les obres de Sant Pere son àmpliament documentades: La primera església preromànica deuria modificar-se i ampliar-se al s.XII i al s.XIII; entre 1596-1599 fou construït l'actual temple gòtic que fou remodelat al segle XIX i les ultimes obres son de l'any 1847.
L'església conserva l'accés original del temple romànic amb una interessant portalada que mostra grans paral·lelismes amb la de la seu de Manresa i la veïna de Santa Maria de Mura. En els capitells s'hi ha vist la influència més o menys directa dels del monestir de Sant Cugat del Vallès. L'obra es pot datar a finals del s. XII cap a 1180.
It was already well-known that in World War I, the Germans developed long-range artillery and bombed Paris from the German lines. As a result, the Treaty of Versailles banned the future development of the German heavy artillery, including heavy machine guns. The first test flight of a V-2 rocket was carried out on October 3, 1942. The rocket reached 85 kilometers, flew for 296 seconds and fell into the Baltic Sea after 190 kilometers. The V-2 rocket also became the first artificial object to travel into space by crossing the Kármán line (edge of space) with the vertical launch of MW-18014 test rocket on 20 June 1944. Development of the rocket is associated with the first civilian employee of the German missile research facility, the name Wernher von Braun aircraft engineer. He was the one who moved to the United States in 1945 after occupying base of Peenemunde by Allied Troops, and in the mid-1960s developed the Saturn V super-seavy launcher from the V-2 rocket at the Apollo program for the human discoverry of the Moon. The rocket had three stages, and was powered by liquid fuel, flown between 1967-1973, it was used for nine crewed flights to the Moon, and to launch Skylab, the first American space station. Theresore, the base of Peenemunde is also a referendum to the "cradle of modern space travel".
Between August 1943 and March 1945, the US Air Force and the Royal Air Force made a series of bombings in the framework of Hydra (otherwise: Operation Crossbow). As a result of the attacks, the Germans had the rocket manufacturing to underground plants and moving their experimental work to Poland and Austria. The V-1 rocket was already manufactured near Kassel, and one of the venues of V-2 production was in the abandoned gypsum mine of the southern Harz Mountains near Nordhausen. This mine was enormous enough for a 1-mile of extensive facilities to be recruited from Buchenwald's concentration camp at the end of August 1943. The secret name of the completed underground factory and sub-camp became "Dora". Officials estimate that from 1943 until 1945, 60,000 prisoners worked in these factories. Of these, 20,000 had died from various causes including starvation, fatigue and execution. The Wehrmacht and SS fired about 3200 rockets at English and other Western European cities under the term „Vengeance Weapon 2 (V-2)”.
The model you can see here, was created based on blueprints for the large-scale series (Baurehie B) from 1944. The colour including the picture of a naked woman sitting in the crescent moon, follows the paintwork of the original prototype 4 (Baurehie A).
