Opposites

Crazy Tuesday 5th January 2021

Everyone knows the sun sets in the west, but in this photo ther is a ton of color in the north east. This was due to a late evening shower and the sun reflecting of the rain. Normally these rain shafts would appear grey.

Typically when shooting sunrise, we tend to focus more on the direction of the sunlight actually rising ... on this early morning luckily I turned around to see if there were any clouds behind me ... not a lot in this direction either, but for a few minutes the lighting along the opposite horizon was very pretty with the thin layer of atmosphere there and the colors and patterns that showed there under the clear sky conditions. I find this view very pretty and calming with the mostly clear skies.

About 20 minutes later a bunch of clouds came streaming in from this direction, and they are some amazing sights as well, will post some of those soon.

My friend George Tsougrianis, who directed the award winning documentary film Wild Prairie Man, has expressive hands. In early January, he and writer/artist Madonna Hamel were at my house discussing wide ranging ideas about art and life and future projects. I sat back with my camera and a 105mm lens, snapping away, and they both ignored me, as I have trained them to do. Madonna has expressive hands, too, but the angle of light was better when I pointed the camera at George, and this frame jumped out at me when I began sifting through the images to see which ones, if any, were worth processing.

Full disclosure - although the shot was unposed, I decided to go full-studio mode by digitally removing some lighter areas, especially near the edges and corners. I liked the first version, but the graphics of his hands surrounded by black were too compelling to resist. Sort of the opposite of what I did with the grove of trees in a winter-white environment (posted yesterday). The two should look good side by side on the page, I think.

Had no clue and was ready to not deliver anything for Crazy Tuesday, tried hard to think outside the box. Glad and humbled you all like the rather quickly taken photo! Greets from Germany

Time for a rest..... keep going

Returning to Florence as I have many more photos from my Italy trips I would like to share. This candid was taken at Ponte Vecchio bridge.

For the Macromondays theme "Opposites" I thought in invisible forces, like gravity or magnetic fields in the physical world; and also another kind of force for us people: Emotions, hate and love.

In all those cases we need the complementary opposite. As result we have a world as we know it.

The popular trick with the coins can be done -so as I know- only with magnets; so I made it in representation of the invisible forces that glue us.

As usual, 100% SOOC. Macromondays theme: "Opposites".

I love books, old books and new books, I love reading , and for me one of the best things to pass the time is reading

Amo los libros, antiguos y nuevos. Amo leer, y para mí una de las mejores maneras de pasar el tiempo es la lectura.

Opposites… Sides of the dice.

For this week’s Macro Mondays theme I have submitted this shot of two dice on an old Risk game board, with the dice set showing the opposites sides and numbers.

The dice were too bland on their own, so I think this element of the Risk board added some significance and colour.

Happy Macro Mondays everyone! 

For the Macro Mondays Theme: Perfect Match.

Although we are each other's opposites, we can not do without each other. Together we are powerful, No power, no glory and that's why we are a perfect match!

Taken down by the river opposite the Shard, The two pillars used to form a dock a but it has been removed and now these are the only two structures left. It was taken just as the tide had got to its lowest and it was still a fight to walk across to that part of the river as it was very wet and slippery but i think that the walk was worth it.

Not quite raining early this morning for a change. Wood Ducks and honking Canada Geese awoke me.

A Canada Goose couple seems to have claimed our area. Not too much frightens them.

But Wood Ducks? Just the sound of the camera shutter many meters away alerts them to possible danger, and a sudden flush of ducks fills the air with high-pitched squealing.

I do love it here.

Yellow and purple were my favorite opposite color combination to use when I was painting, and lo and behold I think they look great in a photograph too! ;)
