The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) is a medium-sized wild cat widely distributed from Northern, Central and Eastern Europe to Central Asia and Siberia, the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalayas. It inhabits temperate and boreal forests up to an elevation of 5,500 m (18,000 ft). Despite its wide distribution, it is threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching and depletion of prey. I won't go into the thinking behind the ongoing construction of the High Speed 2 (HS2) line which is costing at least £106bn and rising... No, this is the local railway line which once brought me back from work in Birmingham City Centre to my local station. I've always meant to take a picture of it from the railway bridge about a mile from home and now I have ! Love the autumn colours here.

Thanks for all your nice comments and faves - you're all very appreciated !
My ongoing mission to bring respectability to the architecture of the much maligned borough of Croydon continues. I've showed the very top of the 43-storey Saffron Tower in an image I posted a couple of weeks ago. Here's another view, this time looking up at it. Now if someone could just move that bloody streetlamp!!!

A pair of new ALC-42s lead Amtrak train 7 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, on their way to Seattle. Ongoing teething issues with the new units on previous trips west from Chicago has prompted Amtrak to add a non-revenue car behind the power to house Siemens personnel so they can keep an eye on the locomotives this time.

Avenue de Luchon, Montréjeau, Haute-Garonne, France
This is a busy street with ongoing traffic to the nearby Centre Commercial in Gourdan-Polignan and also to places like Bagnères-de-Luchon and Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, and Viella in Spain.
The road is rather narrow and the sidewalks are either only 50 cm wide or absent at all. A risky place for any pedestrian I must say....
Anyway, eventually all shops in this part of the street (between Place de l'Orme and the Garonne river) have closed many years ago and the buildings where abandoned or have even collapsed.
After many times of driving through this street, on the way to Lac d'Oô or on the way back from Nistos Cap-Nestès, I finally took the time to make some pictures.
After postprocessing they pretty much looked like how I wanted them to be, like on a grey day in this street.

Ongoing Project
This Month I am featuring "Work in Progress", "Work Completed" but still not Premiered, or new ideas that are in their infancy.
There will be 8 groups of 4 pics.
Each day a new pic from a new group will be shown and then it will be repeated throughout the month.
Hope that makes sense!
The ongoing non-essential travel embargo is proving a challenge regards material although, thankfully, I'm still finding stuff in the archives that hasn't yet been given an airing.
This shot carries as much interest as most in that it features a coal working to a power station. - a traffic that has all but disappeared since this was taken six years ago. The train is the 6.45am Humber Terminal - Ratcliffe Power Station (6M04) in the hands of DB Cargo Shed 66087.
The location is Newark-on-Trent and the train is captured here crossing the Midland Railway's steel framed bridge over the River Trent just below the weir. This, at the time cheap and uninspiring but today rather characterful structure, was built by Derby firm Andrew Handyside & Co in 1891 as a replacement for the timber-framed bridge built in 1846 when the Nottingham - Lincoln line opened. No doubt the structure is sound enough but the whole thing, which extends behind me over the flood plain, does look a little careworn - of course also an appealing feature for the snapper!
In the background can be seen the catenary of the East Coast Mainline. The Nottingham - Lincoln line traverses it by way of a flat-level crossing, which the train will still be straddling at this point.
For me, the shot's a reminder that, when clean, the EWS liveried locos and wagon rakes didn't look too bad.

Wanna Buy Me A Coffee?
In this ongoing sabbatical from railway photography I've been continuing to trawl through the archives to sweat the assets I already have, and here is a shot that hasn't been aired before.
It features DB Cargo 'Shed' 66025 working hard lifting the 11.55am Tunstead - Dowlow Briggs (6H22) through the village of Harpur Hill just south of Buxton, on the kind of weather day that's not so untypical for June in the High Peak.
The train is carrying coarsely-graded limestone quarried at Tunstead for further crushing at Dowlow, from where it will be transported out, either by train or truck, to various destinations around the UK, often for construction work.
The attraction of this shot was the bungalow in the foreground, complete with the roaming geese! In the background can be seen the old embankment used by the Cromford & High Peak Railway on the final leg of its journey to the Peak Forest Canal at Whaley Bridge. The line, which closed in the late 1960s, joined the Buxton to Ashbourne line (upon which this train is travelling) about a half-mile to the left, although there's very little evidence of the old junction now. Back to the frame and a gentleman can be seeing walking his border collie up Hillhead Lane and passing where a bridge would have carried the C&HPR line over the road - this has long gone and presumably removed to allow the frequent trucks that pass this way unencumbered access.
Sadly the view today won't be quite so bucolic - Harpur Hill is now seeing significant residential development to help ease the national housing shortage, and the area between the train and the C&HPR embankment (along with several other greenfield sites locally) is pretty well a building site. The once sleepy village of Harpur Hill is, I suspect, gone for good.
