A very pleasing array of Olympians, mostly Volvo, but one Leyland sandwiched in the middle, all with a London connection.

Ancient Olympian Games "Archery"

Despite being nearly 21 years old, this Volvo Olympian still looks well presented, except the common place on Olympians... the nearside at the front on the roof. Sadly after SGBC was purchased by Stagecoach, the remaining Olympians have been sold, with some luckily going to preservation.

South Gloucestershire Bus & Coach's S828 OFT is seen parked on Bond Street (A4044), Bristol City Centre, after taking a 225 Ashton Park School. South Gloucestershire Bus & Coach sold to Stagecoach's West operation in September 2019 with this being completed in November. This became Stagecoach's 16259. S828OFT was new in December 1998 to Go Coastline (Go-North East), as their 3828. Later in life, it gained an all over yellow livery for school work with "Yellow Bus" branding. Late 2014 saw it get withdrawn from service, before joining SGBC in Late February/Early March 2015. It is a Volvo Olympian/Northern Counties Palatine II.

C770SFS ...No 3288 of "other uses" for Olympians, now the Bullring steak bus in Blackburn complete with horns !. This bus had operated as a party bus in Aberdeen and was within a cats whisker of joining two others on a boat to Australia in 2019 but events conspired against this particular one and it has found a new home here.

H807XMY a former metrobus, orpington leyland olympian with all leyland body. It has spent many years with Johnsons at Mansfield on school work but was withdrawn in 2022. It now has a new future on the other side of the world, seen here posed for the very last time in the UK before i drove her to the docks..godspeed but not goodbye.

This has since passed into preservation and carries this livery, albeit looking a lot smarter, in 2018.

There's so much to say about 285 and one could write from memory for several pages, only to add that it belonged to a fleet of 67 buses that were perhaps the most photographed in Edinburgh, particularly in their last year in 2009 - surely no other buses enjoyed such a swan song as the P group 251 to 279 and 281 to 285 (the previous N reg group retired at the start of 2009) and that was probably due to three factors: the end of red leatherette seating, the end of traditional madder red and white livery and the beginning of the end of step entrance buses.

It's ten years since that memorable night at Glenlockhart in the gloom when 278 and 285 posed together - their last duties in service and the end of an era.

X285 is seen in Princes Street on the September running day between Haymarket and Eastfield.

Based in Larnaca, this new to Colchester Olympian has just been refurbished to a very high standard and was just awaiting vinyls at the time of our visit.

The final Olympian in active service with Stagecoach East Kent can be found working out of Ashford and its usual duty seems to be the SDO route 18A from Ashford to Canterbury via Smeeth, Sellindge, Lympne, Newingreen, Stanford, Farthing Common, Stelling Minnis, Bossingham and Street End it then sits at Canterbury Bus Station all day before working the final route 1A to Ashford of the day. It occasionally can be found working route 2A and 10A.

Volvo Olympian - Northern Counties Palatine (Ex-Stagecoach East London VN26 & Stagecoach Cambridge)

October 1993 and Leyland Olympian RH169 is seen when new, it had been delivered from Belfast without ad frames but they were fitted soon after and are a different shade of Green. It is seen on College Green on a 15B to Templeogue in South Dublin

Blackpool Transport were one of several operators keen to avail themselves of West Yorkshire PTEs need to divest themselves of late model Leyland Olympians, and indeed, why wouldn't they be. Here UWW 11X heads towards the promenade circa 1987 ... in days gone by, it would have just passed the front of Blackpool Central railway station. These Olympians looked quite pleasant in Blackpool's green and cream and represented a marked improvement in livery from the then recently used all-over cream. Looking at the picture now however, there appears to be some movement between the dome and the mid deck panel at the front, judging by the aluminium oxide runs from the rivets.

C118CHM the immaculate non pcv Olympian which was the original mobile sweet shop & shake bar for outdoor events. It has since moved on to another owner based North of London but travels widely to similar events.

Quite a few London ecw L olympians have surprisingly resurfaced this year, one in Oxfordshire thought long gone and a caravan in Swindon. Of the more well known however is L71 which has been with confidence at leicester for years. Now moved on it is seen here on its way to a new owner.

Suffolk Norse Volvo Olympian Alexander R413 LHK seen in Ipswich Today.

Abbey / Steve Stockdale over in Selby had the last (?) volvo olympian in normal use operating in the Yorkshire region. Its demise was hastened by another factor but it came off at the end of the summer school term. A good reliable bus from a decent well respected operator, a combination always worth a punt..seen here posed up after i collected it.

A rear view of another of the airbus batch, showing the additional grilles on the rear and nearside to cater for the air-con.

In 1981, Leyland Bus sent this demonstrator to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia where it was used by SAPTO. It has 3 doors. The rear section of the lower deck, and rear door, was for the exclusive use by ladies.

Back when even the North Devon bus scene was a bit tasty with Stagecoach muscling in on First territory, ultimately we know how it ended but there was lots of variety on show while they battled it out.

This Olympian was one of two out on the 1 this particular day along with Darts and Tridents, good times and worth the trip up.

25 years young and still on the road, amazing! Still sounded good too actually. Note Carters innovative fleet numbering system...!

This vehicle was delivered new to Southern Vectis, and currently wears Damory Coaches livery. It would appear to be unlikely to make it into Carters colours now.
