The great gray owl took off for the prey in the ground.

What looks like a noisy face-off among the nesting Royal Spoonbills was actually surprisingly quiet apart from the flapping of wings. The open bills looked quite dramatic and threatening.

I've been visiting here regularly in hope of one day soon seeing some little spoonbills. Still a way to go yet.

Took my mountain bike out for some serious muddy off roadin'! Exhilarating! Exciting! Fast! Very Muddy!

Where I live I am surrounded by fields and woodland and so I took my bike out Tuesday morning at 6am as the sun was rising. I'm quite scratched and bruised as its quite tough terrain here and there's always brambles hanging down round the edge of fields and bridleways. My arms took a a proper scratching.

I took my bike out again this morning for another 5 miler as its gonna be hot one today, there was a rising mist across the fields and a gorgeous Sunrise.

I don't take my camera as it may get broken. I will have to stop and do an iPhone image next time.

Now for a cup of tea and chocolate biscuit.....

I went out for a drive in the rain today to see if there was any snowy action... this snowy owl surprised me at first coming out from behind the break-water rocks at the wharf... he flew out onto the bay and caught something in his talons... then flew off away from me to scare away another snowy coming toward him. Then he landed on the navigation light close to where I was. I waited for about another half hour till he decided to fly off and I got this shot. They are so fast and I was in my car as to not get soaked ... I did manage to get him all in the frame ... lol

A couple of American White Pelicans dwarf a Reddish Egret and almost seem amused at the little guy. Or perhaps they're thinking that the egret looks like a nice snack...

When viewing a Reddish Egret without other birds around, they look like a fairly large bird. So this gives a nice sense of just how huge the American White Pelicans are.

This encounter occurred along the gulf coast of Texas.

I feel so sorry for the butterflies. They are constantly harassed by wasps and bees but after being pushed off the flowers they fly in a circle then return for more nectar.
