Hexed Link Tree

Trees on the hillside at the far end of the Hope Valley. Near to the base of Mam Tor in the Peak District.

It's a beautiful location, I've been there many times over the last year photographing and filming across all four seasons.

This visit I could see the destruction of winter and the very early signs of spring. There are a lot less leaves on the trees out there than there are in the city.

Femme exceptionnelle , passionnée et si fragile

A massive Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus) buck from Socorro County, New Mexico.

I dubbed this battle worn buck "Odin". Though his antlers were impressive, his body mass is what set him apart from his competitors. He bore numerous scars, including an injury to one eye. We observed him foraging and resting a short distance from his harem. Though he was often out of sight, we knew he was keeping a close eye on them, ready to spring into action at the first hint of an approaching competitor.

Gotta share this...Odin sleeping on my arm. Working in photoshop or anything else for that matter... can''t be done with one hand really…. so here i sit watching this adorable furball sleeping and SNORING!

Odin was not part of the oldest Norse pantheon but entered Northern belief during the Migration Period, when warrior elites brought new gods with them. While the Vanir embodied earth and fertility, Odin and the Æsir represented a new, warlike and sky-oriented power. The myth of the war between the Vanir and Æsir may reflect a clash of cultures – the rooted farming people and an incoming warrior society – that eventually merged into a shared pantheon.

Can you imagine that Odin uses the Northern Light, Aurora borealis to show his angry face !? Well, look again and you can see his face.

The photo was taken on 10. October 2024 nearly straight up in the sky, this was not exatly in zenit like the Aurora borealis was on 11. May 2024.

Do I need to say that a very sturdy tripod is a necessity !

Here we are at Odin, Minnesota, population 106. Odin lies along the Union Pacific Fairmont Subdivision, the first community on the railroad south of Butterfield. I was nicely surprised to see the CTC signals at the Butterfield wye east switch lined for the Fairmont Subdivision, so my pursuit of this train continued towards Odin and Fairmont instead of Windom and Worthington.

He wanders between worlds – cloak and hood hide his face, one eye dark as night, the other sacrificed for insight. Above him fly the ravens Huginn and Muninn, thought and memory, his messengers between gods and men. In his hand he carries the spear Gungne, forged by dwarves and dedicated to the power of the runes.

Odin does not seek peace, but understanding. He sacrifices everything for the knowledge that the guardian's well hides in its depths. He is both war and poetry, storm and silence. When the wind howls over the battlefield, it is his breath that drives it. When the skalds sing, his voice speaks through their words.

He is the Allfather – the one who gives and the one who takes, who weaves the fate of men with the threads of gods and jötunn. No one knows his true face, for he bears many names and many masks. But he is always near – where wise words, blood and sacrifice meet in the darkness.

Odin is fine with taking a backseat this go-around. :)

Odin is the Allfather and chief god in Norse mythology, associated with wisdom, war, and death.

He sacrificed an eye for knowledge and hung himself on Yggdrasil to gain the runes.

Often depicted with a long beard, a cloak, and a wide-brimmed hat, he rides the eight-legged horse Sleipnir.

He is accompanied by two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, who bring him news from the world.

Odin dwells in Asgard and prepares for Ragnarök, the final battle of the gods.

Odin from Old Norse: Óðinn) is a widely revered god in Germanic paganism. Norse mythology, the source of most surviving information about him, associates him with wisdom, healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, war, battle, victory, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and depicts him as the husband of the goddess Frigg.

Just try and take it away from me...I dare you
