Uluru is one of Australia's most recognisable natural landmarks. The sandstone formation stands 348 m high, rising 863 m above sea level with most of its bulk lying underground, and has a total circumference of 9.4 km. Both Uluru and the nearby Kata Tjuta formation have great cultural significance for the Aá angu people, the traditional inhabitants of the area, who lead walking tours to inform visitors about the local flora and fauna, bush food and the Aboriginal dreamtime stories of the area.
Uluru is notable for appearing to change colour at different times of the day and year, most notably when it glows red at dawn and sunset.
Kata Tjuta, also called Mount Olga or the Olgas, lies 25 km (16 mi) west of Uluru. Special viewing areas with road access and parking have been constructed to give tourists the best views of both sites at dawn and dusk.
1800 steps to a multi million dollar view
The Sealy Tarns are located 500 meters up a steep mountainside with mirror-like water that reflects the nearby mountains like Mt. Sefton and Mt. Cook. The hiking trail to Sealy Tarns is not very long; however, it is very steep. The hike came in at 3.6 miles round trip with a gain of 1,795 feet of elevation. The trail uses 1800 steps to ascend to a spectacular, far-reaching view of Mt. Cook and Hooker Lake and Mueller Lake.
On the third day when we were in Mt. Cook area, the rain ceased and we were ready to hike up to Sealy Tarns. We parked our car at the trailhead and carried over 30 lbs of backpack and photography equipment and started to hike. We walked slowly and steadily. Very often we checked hiking apps to get the status of how far we progressed, such as how many miles and height we had climbed. After walking an hour or so, I saw somebody wrote a message on the trail step saying "1000 more steps f* you". At the beginning, I thought it was saying we already climbed up 1000 steps, then I realized what it meant and I felt a little bit disappointed because we still had 1000 steps ahead of us. Anyhow, it took us about 2 hours to get to our destination. When we got up to this breathtaking view, we totally forgot how tired we were and started to scout around for best camera view.
The sunset that day wasn't too bad, we took some pictures and I left my camera at the spot where I had a spot for shooting the milky way. According to Planit for Photographers, the milky way would show up near the peak of Mt. Cook around 2 am. So, I setup our alarm and went to bed. At 2 am when the alarm rung, I heard rain drops hitting the tent, I thought we were out of luck. So, I changed my alarm to 3 am went to sleep again. A few minutes before 3 am, I heard Dr. Zhang calling us to get up and yelling that the milky way was going to move away from Mt. Cook. I asked if the rain stopped, he said no, there was no rain at all. I got up quickly and ran to my camera. Although I got up late, I still I managed to shoot a couple of frames. I am glad that Dr. Zhang called me. Otherwise, I would miss this great photo opportunity.
This picture is merged with two rows of vertical shots. The foreground was taken during blue hour.

Baptism on the line, also called equatorial baptism, is an initiation ritual sometimes performed as a ship crosses the Equator, involving water baptism of passengers or crew who have never crossed the Equator before. The ceremony is sometimes explained as being an initiation into the court of King Neptune.
The ritual is the subject of a painting by Matthew Benedict named The Mariner's Baptism and of a 1961 book by Henning Henningsen named Crossing the Equator: Sailor's Baptism and Other Initiation Rites.
