A towering storm cloud put down a bolt of lightning into the ocean as sunrise awaits along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. (Explore # 118) www.rossellet.com
Captured in: Nags Head, NC.
Pictured here is a view along the beach in Nags Head, NC. In the distance you can see Jennette's Pier (one of the most famous fishing piers found on the Outer Banks of North Carolina) extending out into the Atlantic Ocean.
I happened to get a bit lucky with the sky on this one, as a storm cleared out just before sunset. I was about ready to pack it in for the night, but decided to stick around in case the clouds happened to break before all the light was gone... Guess Mother Nature decided she was going to reward us for waiting out the storm that evening. :)

"OBX Sunset" is a blended HDR image that was processed using a combination of ACR, Aurora HDR, Photoshop and various Topaz Labs Plugins (Adjust, AI Clear, Denoise, Glow, and Impression).
The HDR image was assembled using 5 separate bracketed shots that were +/- 1 stop in between each of the images.

Continuing my OBX series... It had been 28 years since I was last at the Outer Banks, and like everything else things have changed. The money from the Northern Virginia/DC area was already moving in when I was there last, but I had no idea how that money would change the Northern Beaches. While it was nice to stay in an area that more resembled a Disneyworld Resort, it was also sad to see the rustic charm all but gone. It was still a fun trip, and I am glad my wife finally got to experience the OBX, and on a brighter note, she did get to see some of that older North Carolina charm when we visited Manteo/Roanoke Island.
Three lightning shots combined. Taken in Salvo, NC.
