The plant in Tampere was founded in 1942 as a manufacturer of buses and special bodies. The Ajokki name is translated as "vehicle". The factory was established in wartime, with all its attendant problems - shortage of materials and labor. Initially, production was carried out in rented areas. But in March-April 1943, production began in its own building. That time the company produced and repair trucks, chassis, buses and taxis. In wartime, almost all production went to army. In the late '40s production has increased significantly. In 1951, the company included 128 workers. In 1952, a terrible fire destroyed almost all the production facilities of the company, but the plant quickly recovered and returned to its usual activities. In 1955, Ajokki introduced its first wooden body bus with steel reinforcement, and in 1957 the plant began producing all-steel bodies. In 1989, Ajokki Oy, together with the Delta Plan Oy and Wiima Oy, became the part of the Carrus Oy, which later, in 2004, joined to the group Volvo
The gas and electricity outage in Caddington continues. Some homes in the village have gas, some has electricity, some have both, some have neither. A real mixed bag. Our gas is still out but at least we have electricity. An eerie silence decended on the village last night with further power cuts. The emergency rest centres have been open 24 hours a day for the last few days and have done a great job.
Meanwhile, the snowy weather continues to hamper the army of men busy working away down numerous holes scattered around the village

Berwick isn't just near the border with Scotland. There's also one in Sussex and it was that one that we set out on a 11.5 mile walk to Eastbourne. However just outside the station was a curious site. A yard full of old outside broadcast vans, including this ex-TVS one. Notably the logos had been mostly removed, however the phrase "Independent television in the South and South East" remained, whilst enough of the TVS logo remained at the back in order to work out the missing pieces.

We've now got both gas and electricity, there are still homes in the 'wet' area of the village with neither though

A former BBC outside broadcast van (with BBC logos removed) sits, rather curiously, alongside the "Holby Breast Screening Unit", still featuring NHS logos although clearly never in the NHS's ownership.

We've had no gas supply for 2 days now, and last night half the village lost it's electricty too. Water in the pipes apparently. People actually had water squirting out of their gas cookers and fires! Wherever you go in the village there's a guy in a yellow jacket digging a hole, it's bloody freezing too. Heaters and cookers have been handed out by National Grid who have been really professional throughout. Temporary generators are being installed currently to try to get the electricity back on. I guess inevitably lots of homes will require new meters, cookers and boilers etc.
