If there are no stories, there is silence.

If we don't tell the stories, we have no voice.

If the stories are not heard, we are invisible.

It's even more difficult when the stories are hard to hear and impossible to imagine.

cit. Belinda Mason - on the occasion of her multimedia photography exhibition "Silent Tears" dedicated to violence against disabled women .... Multiple violence, ignoble

Lake Michigan was looking especially breathtaking with its glassy surface and soothing shades of blues. Quite marvelous indeed!

For a short time, the lake and sky melded together in a blend of pastels. We sat and enjoyed the beauty of it for a while.

Moments in nature like this always remind me how most things are temporary, both good and bad. It’s helped me get through tough times and makes me cherish the good as much as possible. For me, nature is the greatest teacher!

UN WOMEN LINK about the campaign.

Why having this campaign in our virtual world?

Let's face it! Gender-based abuse also exists virtually, it may be in an unintentional or intentional form. The extent of this violence may not be physical but will always result to short-term or long-term emotional trauma and anxiety to the member victims resulting to a violation of the Community of Standards (not TOS) of SL. Raising awareness in our SL community will give us reminders that one cannot just violate and do things according to their pleasure in-world with the expense of another person/ persons. It is time to at least put light into this issue by supporting us.

Looking forward to joining us! This will be an awareness campaign and participation are free!

A dedication for March 8, International Women's Day

but every day is a Woman Day.

And for May 14, the Mother's Day, of course <3

Edit: And today Sat. Nov. 25 2023, World Day for the elimination of gender-based violence, let's #orangetheworld to #stopviolence !

...Or, as Friend Aurelio says For Women today, everyday !

I was used to see my Amaryllis* plant blooming 2 symmetrical flowers, one opposite to the other. This time it blossomed three and the third and last (in the middle) just flowered this morning.

*Correct botanical name of these flowers above: Hippeastrum (genre Amaryllis).

Shot today in manual modality, in natural in-door noon light with my glorious Fujifilm XS-1 and its potent hyperzoom Fujinon lenses 624, an almost vintage camera exemplair bought last year pristine in box from the collection of a photographer. A great camera, a little complex as it's needed every time a manual set up and equalization of colours but apt to give true tones and such detailed textures in the things photographed that usually escape to the eye sight.

This is the best I can come up with for this date, but I took it from the car while moving, and it was a slow exposure, and I decided I didn't hate the repetition of the pattern of the lights. And the title? While I was flipping channels on the radio, Wagner's Ride Of The Valkyrie came on, which seemed a fitting, somewhat humorous soundtrack for driving around hunting for images to photograph. One photo a day. (330/366)-- November 25, 2020

“NASA FLIGHT RESEARCH CENTER, EDWARDS, CALIF…Three chase planes fly over the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s M-2 lifting body in salute following a rocket powered flight in the experimental craft. The M-2 is one of the several wingless lifting bodies being flight tested to aid in the development of the proposed space shuttlecraft that will be used to transport men and material to and from orbiting space stations. The M-2 is air launched from a mother ship flying at 45,000 feet and uses a rocket engine to climb to the high speeds and altitudes. As planned for the shuttle, the M-2 then maneuvers back under pilot control to a horizontal ground landing, much like conventional jet aircraft of today.”

If the date on the verso is correct, this is either the scene after the first powered flight on November25, 1970, piloted by Bill Dana; the second powered flight on February 9, 1971, piloted by Jerry Gentry, or the third, on February 26, 1971, again piloted by Bill Dana.

Having no idea what prompted a flyover salute…like after every successful flight? After a first/last flight? Fastest? Highest? And in the case of B-52 lofted/released flights, is the absence of the carrier aircraft here a ‘lesser’ salute, that is, it met none of the above criteria. As probably/possibly being a USAF “customs & courtesies” thing, I’d expect there to be standard applied. But then again, it’s the USAF, and they may’ve just been ‘winging’ it. Just kidding airpersons…just kidding.

I think the chase planes are a T-38 & two F-104’s.

After the final M2-F3 flight...a B-52 only salute:

Fidel Castro is dead at the age of 90. The brutal communist dictator established a repressive police state in Cuba, reneging on his promise of free elections for a democratic nation. He executed thousands of Cubans who opposed his totalitarian regime and imprisoned tens of thousands, beating and torturing many of them. He divided tens of thousands of families, destroyed the economy and the culture and established a communist regime, becoming a satellite of the Soviet Union. He put the world on the brink of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

During almost six decades, millions of Cubans have fled the communist island in search of freedom and prosperity because all freedoms were suspended by the tyrant who would lecture the nation via radio and TV saying: “Dentro de la revolución todo, contra la revolución nada.” (With the revolution, everything, against the revolution, nothing.) He made sure all his opponents were silenced by incarceration and often by torture and death.

Fidel Castro and his communist regime exported and supported terrorism, guerrilla warfare, as well as drug trafficking throughout Latin America and the world.

I'm a living witness that his legacy is one of repression, family separation, suffering, death, and destruction of a once prosperous nation.

Free Cubans all over the world are celebrating the death of a monster who enslaved an entire nation and made the Island of Cuba his private plantation. Donald Trump's statements about the legacy of Fidel Castro are spot on and historically accurate. I should know, I lived under that repressive regime for more than ten years and experienced firsthand the havoc this brutal dictator has reeked during his more than five decades in power, turning Cuba into a maximum security prison. Trump said, and I agree:

"Fidel Castro's legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights. While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve."

The President-elect added, "Though the tragedies, deaths and pain caused by Fidel Castro cannot be erased, our administration will do all it can to ensure the Cuban people can finally begin their journey toward prosperity and liberty." May our people be free at last!

--------------------------------------

Women's activists have marked November 25 as a day against violence since 1981. On December 17, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). The UN invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designated to raise public awareness of the problem on this day as an international observance. Women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence, and the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden.

This date came from the brutal assassination in 1960, of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on orders of Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).

--------------------------------------
