Somebody is glad to see 031 as she enters Newbridge. I seldom took notes of my 35mm, but now think this may be the 07.30 Westport - Dublin Heuston.

Round Top in the distance note

New 18-year-old Danish poet

Ironically it was today in Houston that I found out Bill Bryson has a new book scheduled for publication at the end of May. In many ways it will be a follow up to his "Notes from a small island" shown above. His new work will be eagerly anticipated in this household.

The title is fixed but as yet there is no indication of the cover or the exact date of release. What is known is that the majority of chapters are based around his usual wry observations from different locations around Brexitland during the last year. Most feature England. However, there will be at least one chapter from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

With his gentle but incisive insights, it should be a fascinating read from a gentleman who holds dual nationality - born in America but who has spent most of his life in Britain. In the new book, he apparently looks on at the utter chaos in a country he clearly loves - but one that is falling apart at the seams.

... on brevity:

War memorial commemorating 165 of the Soviet prisoners of war who lost their lives in Norway during WWII.

140 of the 165 were exhumed from their graves in five other locations after the war and laid to rest again here.

About 500 prison camps were established in Norway by the German occupying power (1940-45). 150,000 prisoners of war, captured as they sought to fight Hitler's Third Reich elsewhere in Europe, were brought to Norway. They were used as slave labourers and generally subjected to inhuman conditions.

Some 13,700 of the 20,000 POWs who died in Norway were Soviet citizens.

With it being so hot, we left town at 5AM today for our outing to North Coyote Buttes. While on the trail, the sun broke over the cliffs to the east and created a compelling scene. I quickly showed my clients how to capture the sunstar. This was the best foreground we could find at short notice. I took this as a single shot handheld at f/22 and ISO 320. On a side note, it's always fun taking people to the Wave and watching their reaction upon seeing it for the first time!

Not very different from my previous upload of the toilet pods at the Sketch restaurant in London but given the uniquemess of the space I thought it was worth exploring in some photographic depth.

On a technical note, my camera struggled to get an accurate colour temperature reading and most shots turned out quite pink. Luckily though when you're shooting RAW you don't need to worry as this can be adjusted in post-production.

For those intrigued by the restaurant you can take a look here : sketch.london/venue_Gallery_David_Shrigley.php?menu=1#gsc...

From Wikipedia : "9 Conduit is a Grade II listed townhouse in Mayfair, designed by Scottish Architect James Wyatt in 1779 as the private residence of James Viner. Following that the building hosted a bizarre variety of societies and institutions that, according to some accounts, included cyclists, balloonists and psychologists, as well as the Suffragette movement in the early 20th century, RIBA and Christian Dior.

In 1887–1909 Conduit Street was converted into the headquarters of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and still retains its plaque and crest in the entrance hall. During this time RIBA/AA hosted a competition to re-design the 18th century façade design and although this was never realized, the RIBA archive at the V&A retains some of the competition proposal drawings.

The townhouse continued its interesting design legacy and history in the mid-20th century to become Christian Dior’s London atelier, within which Dior housed his collections. During this time in the 1970s the listed interior was modified by the seminal mid century architect and leading Pop interior designer and furniture maker Max Clendinning (b. 1924) who designed cupboards, cubicles and display cases for Dior’s ready to wear clothes and accessories. To combine the old and new, everything (including the walls, ceilings and woodwork) was painted a uniform mid-grey with a grey velvet Wilton carpet and grey uniformed attendants to “throw the clothes into sharper relief, and seems to conform with the classical, refined elegance of the House of Dior itself.” This austere style of monochromatic design was developed from his seminal 1960s signature white on white designs that marked the peak of British Modernism.

When the building was taken over by Sketch the interior was re-designed by Mazouz and Paris-based designer and sculptor Noé Duchaufour Lawrance. Several other international designers were commissioned for signature pieces, which are featured throughout sketch."

A Sheet Note is a note that was never meant to be put in circulation and was printed on a sheet of other dollars for collectors. How you are able to tell this is a sheet note is because of the serial number. Any serial number above 93999999 is a sheet note printed in a sheet of uncut notes for collectors. This is still legal tender but rare to find by itself in circulation.

Blue Note Jazz Club is a jazz club and restaurant located at 131 West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, New York City. It is still considered one of the world’s most famous jazz venues and one of the best known and most expensive in New York.

And for the final comparison, here is the same scene shot with my Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Well actually I think the Samsung did the best job haha Darn it.

There’s been too many great entries to note... but I felt like it was my cue to come in. This one deserves a high score!

Note the Communist flag on one of the boats. Kochin until the last election was a Communist state.

Notes:

-I have been thinking about using Technic arch braces as ribbing on a steam locomotive boiler to suggest pipes or plate seams. This is my go at it. The 1/2 stud thickness of the braces is not so inconvenient if an even number of ribs are employed.

- Stock LEGO driving wheels will be replaced by third party XL drivers

- The cab is seven studs wide, thus I consider this a seven-stud wide train engine. By necessity, the pistons are eight studs wide and the rods are to operate at just over 8 studs wide.

-The leading truck is false and is fixed to the rest of the locomotive.

-The trailing truck has a single axle, indicated by the official stock wheel holder. A second axle is suggested cosmetically.

Following on from yesterday's scene-setter, this is the first of this spring's occasional photos showing what remains of the rural Texas Gulf Coast plains. The photo was taken a mere five miles from the previous post "Darkness at the edge of town".
