Notebook in vivid colours and a parrot feather which a friend brought back from a holiday long ago. I thought the two go together for obvious reasons

Prendre ma plume et mes photos ...

J'ai toujours aimé les petits cahiers et les tirages photos.

J'ai enfin trouvé le carnet pour relier mon envie de revenir à une autre époque, plus obsolète et qui me ressemble.

Take my fountain pen and my photos ...

I have always loved small notebooks and photo prints.

I finally found the carnet to connect my desire to return to another time, more obsolete and similar to me.

Four times a year, at the end of each quarter, the notebooks are collected and graded. Of course I want to see everthing --- class notes, vocabulary sheets, cultural info, verb info, tape recorded practice sheets --- everthing completed and in the specified order. Now is that asking too much?

It takes a while to grade the notebooks, but it is worth the time and effort, and I feel good knowing that, when the students leave me, they have a great "resource of information" to use in future Spanish classes.

A macro view of spiral notebook rings, taken for the Flickr Friday group theme, "Ring." The frame spans 1½ - inches across.

Strobist info:

The scene was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights positioned 45° CL and 90° CR, one-foot above and two-feet away from the subject. The speedlights were fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄32 power through Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes.

The SB900s were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X triggers.

Bowland Beer Hall, Holmes Mill, Clitheroe

I decided to go close in this time behind table 56 on account of the open notebook, which I thought would work well in the composition and make for good a foreground interest. It was only after we had finished shooting and were sitting at the tractor rim table (No 5) having a well earned beer that one of the staff members (Ruth), who we had been talking to during the shoot asked had we seen the notebooks?

I said I had only noticed the open one by the table... there are more, she replied, let me show you them. On the other side of the ducting where the open notebook is, are a handful of other notebooks. She picked one out and opened it for me. It turned out that these books had all been donated by people who had worked in the mill prior to its closure - sometime around the 1970's. They contain a wealth of notes relating to the time when the mill was operational. If you can enlarge the pages in the image they outline the principles of weaving as far as I can make out.

These might look like old school books that we have all probably hung onto for years hidden somewhere in our lofts, but to put it into context. The derelict mill was only purchased in 2015 by the James' Places Group and has been restored to house the Bowland Brewery and the Engine Room, so to find such interesting gems from nearly 50 years ago is a bit of a find considering most people would have thrown this sort of thing away after closure and probably the loss of their jobs and livelihoods in the textile industry of the northwest.

Há umas semanas atrás um novo amigo deu-me a conhecer um projecto que iniciou na área da fotografia, convidando-me a participar com o meu trabalho www.blurb.es/user/RSEditions

Surpreenderam-me duas coisas:

- o convite feito a partir de Portugal, onde as elites continuam a funcionar como um forte entrave á divulgação de novos fotógrafos, sejam estes profissionais ou amadores.

O meu trabalho inscreve-se nos segundos e para que conste, é algo que faço apenas pela paixão de quem gosta de vaguear em busca de novas linguagens em torno do meu quotidiano;

A few weeks ago, a new friend introduced me to a project he had started in the field of photography, inviting me to participate with my work - www.blurb.es/user/RSEditions

I was surprised with two things:

- the invitation coming from Portugal, where the elites still being a strong obstacle to the dissemination of new photographers, whether those are professionals or amateurs. My work is inscribed in the seconds and for the record, it is something I do only for the passion of those who like to wonder in search of new languages around my daily life;

- the fact that someone recognized some quality in what I do and therefore thinks it deserves to be part of a book collection with different authors whose quality of work did not leave me indifferent and whom I congratulate since now, inviting all those who are reading me , to explore and taste. For you, Paulo, my special thanks and congratulations. Go Ahead. The courage to start these types of projects is not for everyone, only for those who continue to have a romantic view of life that is often the one that saves us from the multiple routines that lives us many times, near the abyss.

I also invite all of you to take a look at my book, whose name is " To Start a Head " that I share here with great pleasure with friends of every day, hoping that you enjoy it and who knows, maybe buy it or buy any other published author.
