a page from this month's notebook. Someone would essentially open the suitcase and a fan would fill a big bag and it would quickly engulf the whole room forcing everyone to leave.

Filing my palette sketches into the little notebook. I'm a scholar at heart, so I do like collecting bits of information on a topic.
For this reason, and because I am so wrapped up in graphics in my professional life, I started painting last summer with a decidedly "point-and-shoot" approach. I just looked at things and drew, then painted, without too much attention to the study side. It was a good way to start, because I didn't get totally overwhelmed. Intuitively, I made some sketches that I really liked. there are plenty of others that I wouldn't even use to line a birdcage, but that's me. I'm tough on myself.
Once I got into enjoying the process of painting, I made a little investment at Dick Blick, then another at Daniel Smith, read a bit more, and began taking notes.
Oh, and I learned a TON looking at palette sketches and studio notes from all the people who share my obsessive nature around here! Thanks, all!
I wonder sometimes why we, as human beings, are so drawn to multi-colored images like palettes and color charts. Is it everyone? Or are some of us hard-wired that way? Well, I am. And I know I get it from my mom. Her mom was an artist, and her uncles were all engineers and gadget-guys who drafted things and figured things out and made complicated little objects.
I made two notebooks in the ROD style, all machine stitched. One of them will be my first blog give-away. Leave a comment on my blog before april 18 and you might win it.

In my one I wrote the date large on the first page and then i've turned the page and literally just started writing down things I love in it. Literally just that. Big long lists of words on ever single page. When I reach the end i'm going to finish it off with writing the date on the last page. It will be kind of a slice of history of my brain and what I loved in that Era and will defo be an interesting read for my future self!
