Despite trekking around Annapurna is very touristic, some villages keeps very traditionnal and local people, often from Gurung ethnic group, leave from farming.

Annapurna is famous for having been the first 8000m summit to be climbed by human (Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal, in heroic and crazy conditions). Today this area attracts the most trekkers since the lanscape is the most impressive of Nepal. This comes from the fact that the difference of heigh beetween the different summits and the ground basis very high. Based on that criteria, the valley betwwen Annapurna and Dhaulagiri is the deepest in the world. The main ethnic group who live today in this area are the Gurung.

Blade - stranger 324 by Steve M

A trip into Nottingham city centre gave me the opportunity to add to my stranger project. As I wandered down a street in the Lace Market, I saw someone sitting on the steps of a building. I also noticed her coloured hair, so decided to stop and see if she’d agree to being photographed.

I asked Blade if she would stand up so I could use the door she was leaning against as a background. Having her stand, put Blade’s head and shoulders into an area of brighter light than had she remained sitting. Blade’s headphones were on her head, so I asked if she’d remove them as they were hiding a good portion of her colourful hair.

Blade told me she was waiting for a friend and that they were planning to watch a movie on Netflix, although she didn’t know what that would be at the moment.

As Blade spoke to me, I detected an accent so asked where she was from. Canada was her reply, and she added that she had moved to England at a very young age.

Blade is a student, and she is studying creative writing.

I asked Blade what her guilty pleasure was, and she told me watching Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.

When I asked Blade what she couldn’t live without she said her headphones.

What one word would Blade use to describe herself? Honest was her answer.

Thank-you Blade for saying yes to me photographing you for my stranger project. I hope you like your portrait.

This is a Harajuku teen who goes by the name Marina. I've been seeing her around for the better part of a year at least and she has some of the most hardcore piercings of any of the girls we see regularly. She's been in a number of Japanese snap magazines (like FRUiTS). Shot this in front of LaForet (that's the Kitson window in the background).
