Drive to the North Shore

The Liner departs Milwaukee for Chicago. A classic urban scene of an era gone by. From the Blatz and PBR signs to the kid watching the Liner leave with his bike propped up against the switchmen's shanty. Picture was taken in September 54 by Jim Scribbins-Bill Raia Collection.

A lockdown sunset walk around the Whitehaven harbour and North shore was well worth the effort. shots taken handheld as I walked.

Another day and another 0500 Northshore Mining ore train for Silver Bay, Minn.

Three Northshore Mining SD70ACes lead an ore train from Babbit around the mountainous coast of Lake Superior on a perfect winter afternoon. The railroad's future is up in the air, and may cease operations yet this year, so I figured I'd make the trek north to photograph the line before it falls.

256/366: Northshore Trail Lake Grapevine Photography

A long exposure shot taken out on Northshore Trail Lake Grapevine (Flower Mound side) a few weekends ago. We adventured a bit off trail to find this shot of a quiet cove on Lake Grapevine. There was a fisherman across the ways who seemed to be enjoying the peacefulness of the scene. The off trail adventure was worth it as we sat for a while and just enjoyed the breeze off the lake, while watching the white puffy clouds roll on by.

Photo taken with my Nikon D810 and Lee Filters CP and Big Stopper for an exposure time of 61 seconds at f/20, ISO 100 – 14mm.

Northshore Mining received 42 new cars in 1997 to replace a like number that were destroyed in a derailment near Silver Bay the year prior. The new cars sure looked nice with their yellow rotary dump ends.
