The Boquet River wending north on a late fall afternoon near the settlement of Whallonsburgh New York.

The last haying of the season is done, in this scene in New York's North Country. This region is north of what New Yorkers call "upstate" and encompasses the Adirondack lakes and mountains, holds a sparse population, endures harsh winters, and has a character all its own.

July 24, 2022, Moon Lake, Theresa, New York.

Here is the view at dusk from the cottage that Magdalena and I are sharing with our grandkids (Edwin, William, and Steven) for a week in the North Country. We arrived here last Tuesday, and it has been windy until this afternoon. Finally, the wind settled down, and the lake had a mirror-like surface. We hear loons calling, and we see Bald Eagles fishing the lake. We were looking for peace, tranquility, and the sights and sounds of nature, and that’s what we found.

As much as I would like to say this is moonlight reflected on the water between these overlapping points of land, its not. It's actually sunlight on a hazy day and after playing around for a Sliders Sunday effect, it came out with a blue light/moonlight look, which I thought had a more interesting atmosphere.

If you celebrate Thanksgiving, enjoy your time together. Otherwise, have a happy Sliders Sunday!

Thank you for visiting!

I like to get wood for the picture frames I make from locally harvested wood. My friend Greg mills northcountry wood for a living with his “Wood-Mizer” band saw. He’s my source for pine, and cedar - red and white. I love watching him at work with meticulous virtuosity with his saw and front loader. Here, on a crisp autumn day, he tackles a near ton of White Pine. He’ll remove 1-inch boards from all four sides, until he has a square piece twelve by twelve, and then finish with four six by six beams.

The Dells of the Eau Claire River protects a scenic, narrow rocky gorge and waterfalls where geologic processes have resulted in an unusual tilting of bedrock. On this picturesque stretch of the Eau Claire River, the river cascades over outcrops of Precambrian-age rhyolite schist. The Dells of the Eau Claire is owned by Marathon County and was designated a State Natural Area in 1973.

The Marquette Harbor Light sits on a rock bluff above Lake Superior in the U.P. city of Marquette, Mich. and is considered one of the most picturesque lighthouses on the Lake Superior coast.

Too early for a dose of Autumn colours?

High Falls Gorge, a 22 acre privately owned nature park which provides safe trail access to an otherwise inaccessible area, with four splendid Adirondack waterfalls cascading over rocks into a deep crevice carved a billion years ago. In the shadow of Whiteface Mountain, you can take a nature walk to view the famous AuSable River as it cascades over ancient granite cliffs.

If you looking for a good deal on property, this is the place, as long as you don't mind living in a swamp next to a creek called "Dead." The blowing snow of the previous night had painted all the dead trees.

Poor thing. If you view large and look at the side you can see the names "Lowville" and "Beaver River," which is quite cool. These are two of the larger towns through which this train ran.
