Overcast and raining off and on. Used a Hoya CPL.

Taken during a meeting of the North Alabama Photographer's Guild in early April. We were practicing night photography and long exposures on these man-made waterfalls. I found the flowers as fun to shoot as the falls.

Today the white pelicans came in! A fairly large group- they were all feeding. I hadn't seen many of their scouts earlier, so it was a great surprize! Some years, they have been as late as January coming to the Elk River. I was shooting with a long lens while standing on our back deck! They almost got away before I could grab the camera!

DeSoto Falls (warm version)

It is SO wonderful to get the snow! We waited ALL day; many schools and businesses were closed today and it looked like it was going to be a joke, until about 3:30 PM- then the snow started falling and it's still going on! Temps are too warm for it to stay, but what a delight to have it! Our dogs are going crazy with it!

Comorant - Wilson Lake at Wheeler Dam - 2020

The white pelicans are here again on the Elk River in our corner of north Alabama. You can barely see them down at the bend of the river. They have been closer, out from our dock, but I have not been able to get there in time to shoot! I would sit down there but some days they don't along here! They are really big birds and make grumbly old men noises! :)

SQVR's two newest purchased locomotives sit cold during a late winter night in Bridgeport,AL. Both units knew their home as the Southern and Norfolk Southern railroads, as now the SQVR bought them in the summer of 2017.

Nathan Williams, talented caver dude extraordinaire!

Three days of heavy rains have all the waterfalls in North Alabama flowing strong. Where normally I would just use stepping stones to visit, this day it required a near chest deep wade in fast water.

Taken at Birmingham AL botanical gardens for the NAPG (http://www.flickr.com/groups/northalabama) monthly contest. No filter just the wide angle lens that likes to flare.(thanks to Cyndi for the loan)

We looked out on the Elk River this morning and the white pelicans are back! SO cold out there- I don't know how they can stand to be in the water!!

We are still snowed/iced in here. The roads on this part of the river are very hilly and everything is as slick as glass! There is just no getting in our out. UNLESS you are a pelican! :)

A west wind feels good in August when it scorching hot in the south.

Finally made it out to Desoto! Tough one to shoot with that fence!

This exposure was about 1 second. I love this waterfall. The water flows just enough to make a beautiful veil if exposed properly.
