Another shot taken during the recent #Nikon100 London #Nikonmeetups.

Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the Nikon Centenary celebrations the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots, my favourite of which I'll upload over the new few days.

This shot is one of my favourites from the Action Photography workshop with Tom Miles ( www.tmphoto.co.uk/ ) and three parkour experts. This setup was actually the 'finale' of the shoot and involved tempting pigeons down to land with bread and then the parkour runner jumped off the bicycle stand. No pigeons were harmed and it certainly created some dramatic images.

You can see Tom's photo's from the event here : www.behance.net/gallery/56932725/Parkour-Nikon-MegaMeetup

Bamburgh Dunes in the background shooting the Blue Hour.

Another portrait of model Andrea, one of my favourites from the recent #Nikon100 London #NikonMeetups fashion shoot at a fabulous location in West London ( www.shootfactory.co.uk/uk-locations/randolph-london-w9/ ).

My shots might differ from other people's as I didn't use the studio lights provided as my hotshoe was damaged and I couldn't fit the IR commander unit. As a result I had to shoot using only the available natural light, something that has added a bit of extra drama to the shots (and created a bit of a headache in post-production thanks to the extreme contrast......).

I photographed this eye-catching, award winning Allford Hall Monaghan Morris designed building at 61 Oxford Street on my way to last months #Nikon100 #London #NikonMeetups. Being early morning the sunshine was on the short Eastern facing facade so it made the most of the curvaceous form.

From the AHMM website : "61 Oxford Street aims to harmonise the disparate architectural styles that currently characterise east Oxford Street by carefully replacing some local buildings of note with a prominent corner beacon. With its focus on glass – the surface of choice for retailers – the scheme hones in on the area’s one and only shared material quality, and, in undulating that glass, nods to the history of London’s special glazed shopfronts.

An eight-storey volume is articulated with a hierarchy of curved ‘oriel’ or bay windows to unify ground and upper floors and establish the building’s place both on the street and in the sky. The ‘wave length’ of the vertical undulation shortens at the upper levels and combines with horizontal banding to distinguish the retail (the four lower levels, including lower-ground) from the office (the two middle levels) and residential (the upper two levels).

Views, amenity and daylight are maximised for office and residential occupants through set-backs, external terraces and internal planning."

Oxford OPT Open Doors uploads complete but before I return to my Thailand shots I'll upload some images taken during the recent #Nikon100 London #Nikonmeetups.

My group started the day with a street photography workshop led by Leon Neal and Kiran Bhamra Cox. Given the West End was surprisingly quiet at 9am on a Saturday morning we improvised. This shot is of one of the other workshop participants who very sportingly agreed to walk back and forth through some pools of reflected light, vaping as he went.

A very-nearly-sepia portrait of Andrea, one of two models for the #Nikon100 London #NikonMeetups fashion shoot at a fabulous location in West London ( www.shootfactory.co.uk/uk-locations/randolph-london-w9/ ). I kept a little bit of the red channel so that her lipstick subtlety stands out.

I've photographed a few models before but the attention to detail for this shoot made taking great photos very easy.........

From Wikipedia : "Parkour (French pronunciation: [paʁkuʁ]) is a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course training. Practitioners aim to get from one point to another in a complex environment, without assistive equipment and in the fastest and most efficient way possible. Parkour includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and other movements as deemed most suitable for the situation. Parkour's development from military training gives it some aspects of a non-combative martial art.

Parkour is an activity that can be practised alone or with others and is usually—but not exclusively—carried out in urban spaces. Parkour involves seeing one's environment in a new way, and imagining the potential for navigating it by movement around, across, through, over and under its features.

Parkour was developed in France, primarily by Raymond Belle, and further by his son David and the latter's group of friends, the self-styled Yamakasi, during the late 1980s. The discipline was popularised in the late 1990s and 2000s through films, documentaries, and advertisements featuring the Yamakasi."

I'd seen quite a few of these adapted road signs in Florence a few years ago. They were the work of French Artist Clet Abraham but I'm not sure if this sign photographed in London last month is his as well but I'm judging by the style of the figure it might well be.

Looking at his website it does seem he gets about it a bit......... graffikgallery.co.uk/clet-abraham/

A shot of a rose taken with a borrowed Nikon 105mm f2.8 macro lens during the 'Macro / close-up' workshop of the #Nikon100 #London #Nikonmeetups last month.

Having been shooting a variety of subjects all day I must admit my enthusiasm started to flag by late afternoon. I got some good shots of the snake and the lizard but by the time I got to photograph the flower still life set-up even the chance to borrow some very nice #NikonSchool macro lenses couldn't really make me feel excited......

This shot was taken during the the Action Photography workshop with Tom Miles ( www.tmphoto.co.uk/ ) and three parkour experts. I took a lot of shots during this workshop but as you'll see here some lacked a bit of sharpness....... Given the relatively low light I was shooting at 3200 ISO and could still only achieve 1/400th of a second shutter speed which wasn't really fast enough.......

Yesterday I had the chance to join a Nikon Meet Up at the Hackney Studios, Clapton, London. The theme was "London Fashion Shoot" and the idea was to show what you can do with 1,2 or 3 speed lights. There were 2 Nikon trainers there and 4 different set ups to shoot. The model here is the stunning Wei Lin.

#NikonMeetUps

As part of the Cityscapes section of last months #Nikon100 #London #NikonMeetups we were granted access to the roof of Sea Containers House on the southern bank of the Thames. The various roof terraces and balconies aren't normally open to the public and gave great 360 degree views of the London skyline.

One of the more memorable aspects of the building is the large signage up on top of the building. The observant amongst you will note I've flipped this as the sign is usually readable from the North bank of the Thames........

Click here to see other photos from the day : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157686756184653

From Wikipedia : "Sea Containers House is located towards the eastern end of London's South Bank cultural area, and is within the London Borough of Southwark. A continuous river-side walkway, actually part of the Thames Path, passes in front of and below the building, and links it with near river-side attractions such as the Festival Hall, the National Theatre, the Tate Modern, the Oxo Tower and the Globe Theatre.

Sea Containers House was originally conceived as a luxury hotel. Its location near to the City of London led to the decision to complete it instead as office space. Its name comes from the former long-term tenant, Sea Containers.

In Spring 2011, a process began to gain planning permission for an extensive internal and external refurbishment of Sea Containers House. The east and west wings, which face the Thames, remained offices, with companies within global communications group WPP moving in February 2016. The south wing was renovated as the Mondrian Hotel London, bringing at least part of the building back to its original intended use."

A portrait of model Monique Sterling ( www.instagram.com/moniquesterling ) from the recent #Nikon100 London #NikonMeetups fashion shoot at a fabulous location in West London ( www.shootfactory.co.uk/uk-locations/randolph-london-w9/ ). I liked this shot as it shows a bit more than most I took of the wonderfully evocative location that Nikon had hired for the day.

Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the Nikon Centenary celebrations the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots, some in genres I've not much experience.

Bamburgh Castle is a castle on the northeast coast of England, by the village of Bamburgh in Northumberland. It is a Grade I listed building.

Model Monique Sterling must have been at least six feet tall, without her high heels, but this shot exacerbates her height even further.

Just a few more to upload from the recent #Nikon100 London #NikonMeetups fashion shoot at a fabulous location in West London ( www.shootfactory.co.uk/uk-locations/randolph-london-w9/ ).

I'm wishing now I'd had the courage to suggest I took a few shots with my 8mm fisheye........
