I'm very fortunate living in a part of the UK relatively near to so many castles and ruins as they always afford great photo opportunities! Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex is just one example. Its grounds were also the home of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich between 1957 to 1988.
Today the castle is privately owned, having been bought by the Bader International Study Centre of Queen's University, Canada.
You can find more information here if you're interested:

Open the public, the extensive grounds are especially beautiful, being home to several different gardens, including an Elizabethan Garden and a Magic Garden!
Our ship is nestled up behind a tug at the government dock in Cornwall Ontario. It was so quiet and peaceful I could hear the moonlight passing through the clouds. Captured during the 12 to 4 AM watch.

♫ J. Stafford | The Nightwatch ♫
It is close after 4 o’clock in the morning at lake Quitzdorf in Saxony. It is very chilly for a summer day and thick fog is floating over the water. While You can hear the cranes screaming from the other side of the lake, this grey heron is standing alone and silent on the boat landing, waiting with me for the beginning of the day. From time to time it is striding gracefully up and down the woodes planks like a quard of the nightwatch. This was for sure a dreamlike atmosphere, I was allowed to whiteness this morning and the heron definitely was one of the highlights.
Landscapes are usually about simplification of a scene and this shot of the Westertoren in the Grachtengordel neighborhood is a riot of detailed activity but for me it somehow works and is one of my favorite shots I so far have taken of Amsterdam.
The Ouwe Wester built in 1638 stands 87m high and is the tallest church tower in the city, the blue crown you see topping the tower represents the Imperial Austrian crown of Maximillian but from 1906-2006 it was the golden yellow of Rembrandt to honor him 300 years after his birth until recent renovations brought back the original blue color.
The Westerkerk that the tower is attached to is the largest protestant church of Holland and was designed by chief city architect and sculptor Hendrick de Keyser who had previously built the Zuiderkerk and the East India house, unfortunately Hendrick did not live long enough to see the completion of his greatest work but he did usher in the Dutch Classicism architectural style of the 17th century and left his mark on Amsterdam.
Rembrandt van Rijn was buried in the Westerkerk hence the color change to crown on the 300th anniversary of his death but nobody is sure where they buried him as he died a pauper and as is customary to the time the poor would be laid to rest in numbered kerkgraf or stone grave which would be emptied and the contents disposed of after a 20 year period.
Though they may lost the exact location of Rembrandt’s grave they honor him every year on his birthday July 15 with a concert of music from his period and flowers are hung on his memorial marker from 1909 taken from his famous painting the Nachtwacht or Nightwatch in English.
I took this on Sept 9th, 2017 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens at 36mm 1/320 sec f/11 ISO1600 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , Luminar and DXO

La belleza que guarda la naturaleza es enorme, pero también nos toca a nosotros buscarla en el lugar adecuado.
The beauty that nature keeps is enormous, but it is also up to us to look for it in the right place.
My night watchman keeps an eye on the place at night when all is asleep. Flickr Friday's theme Nightwatch, when no one is stirring not even the mouse, the night watch is on guard.

I knew that these tiny (each just over an inch high) glazed ceramic souvenirs that I bought in Amsterdam more than 30 years ago would come in handy one day :-) To emphasize the Dutch theme, I placed the houses on a picture of Rembrandt's Night Watch painting. Just ideas, not so much technical skill. HMM!

Sorry, but modern time needs a modern lantern.
In my first comment you can see this little owl I shot two hours earlier.
A spectacularly rare visitor to MIA. This very specialized 747 aircraft would be the US Government's airborne Command Center should a nuclear war break out.
My first upload of this picture was in color and photoshop refuses to export EXIF with my images so Flickr Friday admin said no. That's OK, I get it. At any rate I'll leave the color photo there but I like the monochrome version better since there is less distraction from the mixed white balance lighting. As I said before this is my homage to Rembrandt's Nightwatch. I used a Canon FD 28mm f3,5 set to f8 for this photo. An alternative title could be "Me Having Difficulty With Myself". Happy Flickr Friday!
