InchGarvie Island
A fortress was built on it in 1514
It has been Fortified many times over the years.
It was captured and held by the English in 1544 for over 2 years
In 1580 when plague was rife, the plague stricken were exiled there and on Inchkeith island as well
The surviving Fortress was once used to keep prisoners in up until 1671
In 1779 the fortifications were renewed as a response to the threat from the American Naval Commander John Paul Jones who set up a base on the Forth and attacked British ships
Some of the stones from the Fortress were used in the foundations of the Forth Bridge
During the First and Second World wars gun emplacements were manned throughout to protect the bridge and nearby Rosyth Naval Dockyard

British artist Bruce Munro transforms St.Andrew Square Garden, Edinburgh into a Field of Lights.
There are 9,500 lighted glass spheres which rise up from the ground on slender stems to create a multi coloured glow of lights which slowly dissolve and change colour and sway gently in the breeze like a field of flowers.
