googlenexus: Good shot!

I've been waiting for the "perfect" android tablet to come out for several years now, and the Nexus 10 is fulfilled that spot. Initially, I was going to purchase the Nexus 7, until rumors came about that Samsung was going to produce a 10" tablet. Low and behold, I recieved one for Christmas! It is exactly what I wanted in a tablet!

The Racing Edition

In the immortal words of Rolf Harris, "can you tell what it is yet?"

It is, of course, my new gadget that I keep talking (ergo boring people) about, my Nexus 10! Also today my Nexus 7 sold on eBay for almost as much as what I paid for it, and more actually than the retail price. It's sold out at the moment and very much in demand.

In other news, Jessops, a renowned British camera retailer, is going into administration. My last major purchase from there was my Fuji X100, and I often browse inside before balking at the cost of items as I know how much I can get them for online and/or imported. It's no wonder they have gone bankrupt; together with the changing landscape of photography equipment in the digital and smartphone age, there was an air of inevitability of its demise. It happened to Jacobs, another major camera retailer, last year.

Despite all this - and although I'm never happy to see people lose their jobs - I am wondering what bargains I can get when it closes down...

Cooling down cheesecake. Might have baked it a bit too long or oven might have been set too hot.

I now have an X-Ray imager - a Scanmax 20.

It's old and fairly low resolution but this is the sort of image I'm getting out of it in my first 24 hours. It's a Nexus 10 tablet and this is a stacked view of five images. (The white dots in the lower left quadrant give a handy image count - they're a single stuck pixel). It looks to me like the aspect ratio is wrong - this is something I'll investigate in further images.

Once I've done some more playing with its low resolution built-in system I'll see if I can do something to up the resolution from the current ~1 line per mm.

The X-ray camera is a big, heavy toy and very, very definitely not portable. I won't be taking panoramic shots with it...
