Tonight when we came home from dinner at dusk I spotted a skunk right next to our front yard. This is not a good photo, I realize, but I wasn't about to get any closer. We live in a community, triangular in shape, that is bordered by three very busy streets, so the amount of wildlife that roams the area is amazing; skunks, opossums, raccoons and the occasional coyote.
It's almost 7 PM and my friend Joe has to be at work by 6 AM the following day so we called it quits and dropped by the public restrooms at the Music Concourse before heading back to the east bay. Just outside the men's restroom, we found this shrub full of purple flowers and being the photography addicts that we are,we could not resist shooting a few more frames. I chose a preset/effect in Topaz Black & White Effects (I was surprised to find this color preset in a B&W plug-in) that gave the processed photo a water color painting look.

I participated in the 2011 Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California last Sunday, October 2. The event was hosted by Catherine Hall and had about 50 shooters/walkers. My friend and I walked back from the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass event at Speedway Meadow but I did not have enough time to get my tripod from where I was parked so all photos were captured hand held.

The whole group split up the day after the hike. Dora, Boja, MAKSTER, hexodus, and I were in the 2WD van while everyone else was in a 4WD truck. Boja brought out her Death Valley map and made some special 4WD only suggestions. There was a vicarious joy in helping them plan. I can't wait to visit Death Valley in a 4WD vehicle one day.
