This popular village shop is on the corner of the High Street that runs through the pretty little village of Cley next the Sea, on the North Norfolk coast. We have often called in there on our various trips to Norfolk. The building is constructed in the traditional Norfolk way, using flints and brick. The lack of building stone in the region has led to the extensive use of flint in Norfolk villages.
A few weeks ago I found out that Tom, Ryan and Corey were headed out to Joshua Tree to get front row seats for the Persid Meteor Shower. I asked if I could tag along, and it eventually worked out better logistically for all involved as Ryan and Corey could now drive straight out to the 60 from San Diego and I would now pick up Tom and head out on the toll road (bad idea, long story) out to the 91 and then out to the desert.
We decided early on that we would stop at Portillos in Moreno Valley. Tom and I ended up getting there early and wasted no time in getting the Italian Beef and some fries. As this was my first time at a Portillos, I instantly became a fan and am looking forward to my next visit.
We all arrived at the White Tank campground by late afternoon and set up the tents before heading into 29 Palms to avail ourselves at the local Jack In The Box. When we came back the plan was to check out an alternate location back at Jumbo Rocks before heading way further down to grab the sun setting over the Cholla. As we were leaving Jumbo Rocks, we came across our first rattle snake, and let's just say it had a strong impact on the decision of some of the members in our party in terms of spending the night on the desert floor at White Tank.
After some of us were ruthlessly attacked by Cholla during golden hour (Corey swears he was just walking by when needles came at him from all sides), we started to get out the long nosed pliers but we instantly got back to the business of shooting a fairly impressive sunset over White Tank. After about a half hour of shooting, I joined Corey at a picnic table to continue the needle removal process. I thought all the color in the sky was gone for the night when I glanced up and saw this shot. Suddenly we were all on our feet again and we kept shooting until thousands of stars filled the sky.

I've found a superb video of the 'Prolarva' of the Willow Emerald Damselfly emerging from the bark of a willow on YouTube.
Such an extraordinary life cycle for a damselfly... Something I hope to see next spring.

Another attempt, this time with manual lens. Spent about 5 minutes by that bush. I took about 80 shots, got 6 keepers out of it, pretty happy with it but the bees are still to small to me, need better magnification for sure.
The next day the weather was better and after a good breakfast at the "Hotel Steel" we got to work fresh. We managed to get at least one good picture on the south side of the complex, but it is clear that we wanted more. After a double check by the Ochrona, we positioned ourselves near the oxygen station and waited there in the din of the huge facilities. Two Qarmet locomotives were active at the same time and posed for us: TEM2UM-907 was shunting scrap for the steel converter, while TEM1-1697 was moving into the plant. Under the bridge, i.e. below us, the Ochrona was active and checking the fence. We noticed very clearly that we were not welcome and went in search of another place.

I got invited to take photos at the movie premiere of Aimuldir – The Soul of a Burkitshi, a heart warming story of a small girl who became an eagle huntress in Mongolia. The short film by director Oliver Klink and producer Jackson Nichols was screened at an art gallery in Palo Alto, California. Returning to the car after the event, Oliver and Jackson discussed the feedback they got on the film.
I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
