I really wanted to extend a special thank you and I love you to all my new and old Flickr friends. This year has been tough for most, if not all of us. This circle of friends we have created here, to lean on and gain positivity has really filled me with hope. It has aided me all through the hard times and is a sail for me to bring me straight into the new year. It is these little things we do for each other on here that can help make a difference in our mental well being. So again, thank you all for your friendship. Peace and God bless!

I've been thinking back and forth. Turned me back and forth. But better safe than sorry. Maybe I'll just leave this tree here at its place and buy him a string of lights when the time comes :-)

Ich habe hin und her überlegt. Mich hin und her gedreht. Aber sicher ist sicher. Vielleicht lasse ich diesen Baum einfach hier stehen und spendiere ihm eine Lichterkette, wenn es soweit ist :-)

The theme for the 1st of January 2021 “Looking Close… on Friday” is “Happy New Year”.
I know that 2020 is a year many of us would rather forget, however I'd like to end the year as I started, on a positive note. There have been many wonderful things that have happened in the unprecedented year that was 2020, and some of those things I have found on Flickr this year including beautiful images, lovely stories and connections with old and new friends. I'm grateful for all of those things and more besides. Thank you for the smiles and laughs! I sincerely hope that you find something to smile and laugh about the New Year's Eve.
I'd like to wish all my Flickr friends and followers the very best for the New Year. Thank you for your support, encouragement and comments this year. Thank you also for all your wonderful photographs!
May your New Year's Eve be a festive one, however you are celebrating this year, and if you are fortunate enough celebrate it with others, may those others be people you love and who love you. May 2021 be a happy, artistic and prosperous year for you all.
This clock has seen through more than a century and a half of New Year's Eves. Made around 1867, it is a black japanned American Seth Thomas mantle clock with ormolu mounts, columns and marbleised leather cappings. After so many years, he still keeps good time and requires winding only once every eight days.

The city center of Morelia, Mexico is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The city has one of the most beautiful cathedrals in all of Mexico, especially when it is illuminated at night. The cathedral took more than a century to build (1640–1744), which explains its combination of Herreresque, baroque and neoclassical styles.

Dear Flickr friends, here's an image for the New Year 2021: the open road ... the open sea ... the sparkling lake ... all metaphors for a fresh new year full of positive potential. Another journey of our dear Earth around the Sunshine. Wishing all the best to everyone! May we make this year the best that we possibly can for the next generations. Together we can envision and create more harmony and inspiration, more caring for our earth, her creatures, and one another. Our universe is a mysterious miracle to cherish with all our hearts. On into the New Year we go together!
As Tennyson put it, “hope smiles from the year to come . . . .” Here’s to everyone’s and theirs having a 2021 that is safe, happy, and contented—ultimately and always moving us forward!
Cheers!
What it says on the tin, really… with warmest good wishes to all my valued Flickr friends, and to those who visit from time to time. I hugely appreciate every view, every comment and every fave, all of which make posting on Flickr so worthwhile.
The trials and tribulations visited upon us by 2020 have been truly awful, haven't they – though you would never know that by viewing (with great pleasure) the upbeat, positive images we've all posted on Flickr.
Now, for a few days at least, it’s time to enjoy the festive season in whatever way we like to, and to look forward with positivity to 2021. The year ahead can’t surely be worse than the year we’re leaving… can it?!
Stay safe, and enjoy the break.

Our neighborhood had a New Year Photo Challenge. They provided a bag with props to be used for the photochallenge. This is my entry. I snapped this at dawn this morning and love the blue coming thru the windows. It was challenge keeping the highlights under control.

The theme for “Looking Close… on Friday” for the 31st of December 2021 is “New Year Cards”.
This postcard, published by Raphael Tuck and Sons in 1904 features the faerie tale of Hansel and Grethel. Chromolithographed in Bavaria, it one of a set of six faerie tale postcards in this series to celebrate Christmas and New Year. I do hope that you like it, and that it makes you smile.
I know that like 2020, 2021 is a year many of us would rather forget, however I'd like to end the year as I started, on a positive note. There have been many wonderful things that have happened in the second year of this world pandemic, and some of those things I have found on Flickr this year including beautiful images, lovely stories and connections with old and new friends. I'm grateful for all of those things and more besides. Thank you for the smiles and laughs! I sincerely hope that you find something to smile and laugh about this New Year's Eve.
May 2022 be a happy, artistic and prosperous year for you all.

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
I took a day trip from Morelia to the Island of Janitzio (an hour bus ride). It is the main island of Lake Pátzcuaro in the state of Michoacán, Mexico and is famous for its Day of the Dead celebrations. At the top of the town stands a 131 foot high statue of Jose Maria Morelos, a hero of the Mexican War of Independence.

I'm very fond of our New Year Tree because every ornament on it was chosen and bought by me. And all of them look exquisitely beautiful to me. I like Christmas ornaments made in India most of all, with their crude, heavy glass with or without etchings; thick metal loops, sometimes rhinestones, and thankfully no glitter. But I have plenty of others as well.
In Russia we celebrate New Year two times: on the 31st of December, officially, and on the 13th of January as well. Till mid-20th century we used a different calendar, in which the 31th of December corresponded to modern 13th January. Religious people also celebrate Christmas which is on the 7th of January, but it is not necessarily connected with New Year Tree.
And a lot of people keep their New Year Tree a lot longer, especially an artificial one, because we celebrate Winter Wonderland in general 😊🎄❄️🍰🎉
We welcomed 2021 with some socially distanced fireworks in our neighborhood. I didn't have enough space (or wide angle lens) to shoot the fireworks burst in the sky along with my wife and daughter, so I used my car to capture the reflection of the sky. I didn't have a tripod, so used another car to steady my hands.
SCOUT: "Goodness Paddy! Look at all the pretty ribbons, and listen to the music! What's happening?"
JAGO: I think I know what it is, Scout!"
SCOUT: "What is it, Jago and Paddy?"
PADDY: "It's New Year's Eve, Scout!"
SCOUT: "New Year's Eve! Already! Hoorah!" *Jumps up and down excitedly through the sea of curling ribbons.* "Luckily I am wearing my new tutu that Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear gave me for Christmas, so I can celebrate! Are you ready to celebrate too, mijn beste vriend Peter? We can dance into the New Year with Spencer and every other bear that wants to join in."
JAGO: "Tonight, Bruno and I are going to dance with Odessa." *Blushes pink beneath English mohair fur.* "I hope she will like dancing with us."
BOGART: "She will love dancing with you Jago. You are a very good dancer. I have seen you dance. She will not have sore paws from being trampled on, that's for sure."
JAGO: "Thank you so much for the compliment, Bogart!"
COUSIN PADDINGTON: "Now is also a good time to reflect on the passing year and celebrate the new year as it begins."
BOGART: "Oooh! It looks like this New Year is going to be fun!" *Joins Scout jumping up and down with excitement.* "And I have a new best friend, Fuzzy, now, whom I will cheer with and make feel less homesick for Canada. We are going to have a wonderful time!"
PADDY: "Oh yes! We can dance and play, laugh and cheer!" *Starts dancing.* "Come along Oleg, mijn best vriend and everybear friend we have! Let's all dance!"
JAGO: "Come along my best friend Benny! Let is dance and sing and celebrate! All bears celebrate!" *Starts dancing.*
BOGART: "How wonderful!" *Starts cheering.* "Wheeeeee!"

DADDY: "And Scout's Little Red Riding Hood doll are getting into the spirit (and champagne) early!"
SCOUT: "Champagne Daddy?" *Looks concerned.* "You said I am too young to drink, and if I am, then Dolly certainly is!"
DADDY: "Well Scout, that's true for Dolly, but we can make a special exception tonight for you. You may have a very small glass of very good quality champagne. I will put a glass out for you, Cousin Paddington, Bogart, Jago and for Paddy."
PADDY, SCOUT, COUSIN PADDINGTON, BOGART and JAGO: "Oh thank you Daddy!"
DADDY: "Happy New Year Paddy, Scout, Cousin Paddington, Bogart and Jago!"

Jago is a recent addition to my ever-growing family. A gift from a dear friend in England, he is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.
Bogart has travelled all the way from Georgia, via Alabama as a gift to me from a friend. He has lovely Southern manners and seems to be a fun and gentle soul with an inquisitive nature.

Cousin Paddington is a recent visitor to our family. Travelling all the way from London, he was caught in transit thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, so it looks like he is stopping with us for a while. The more I look into his happy, smiling face, the more attached I am becoming to him.
Bogart has only arrived in the last few months. He has travelled all the way from Georgia, via Alabama as a gift to me from a friend. I look forward to getting to know his character, but I can already say that he has lovely Southern manners and seems to be a fun and gentle soul with an inquisitive nature.
Cabbage is Paddy's Pug Dog. He was a gift to Paddy from a friend who also likes Pugs. He is fiercely loyal to Paddy, Scout, Cousin Paddington and Bogart, but seldom stays around long enough to have his picture taken, as there are always new adventures to sniff out.
I loved the excitement and interaction with the locals at the night street market in Morelia.
