One of the benefits of working on the road throughout Newfoundland is that it offers many chances to spot wildlife.
Haven't been around lately, but I plan to catch up with your streams in the coming days.
This reminded me of ship's squadrons at sea for some reason. St.John's, NL. (Female Mallard with chicks.)
13 seconds and ISO 10000...somehow I bumped some buttons in the dark when I was trying to get 30 seconds and a lower ISO, but I did catch a couple of meteors. We were at friends' summer home and it was really dark except for the campfire he had burning in the backyard, so a few of the photos had the stars blocked by smoke from the fire. I assume the dotted lines are satellites blinking as they move? If you are looking for dark skies, they are pretty easy to find in Newfoundland!
The mallard seems to think I'm getting too close so I did move off for sure. While they do take food from humans they are in the wild and unpredictable. Near St.John's, NL, Canada.

The Atlantic Puffin is the provincial bird of Newfoundland and Labrador. About 95% of all North America's puffins breed around the Newfoundland and Labrador coasts. Photographed the Common Murres on Gull Island part of the Witless bay Ecological Reserve on the coast of the Avalon Peninsula in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada
Common Murres breed in colonies at high densities, nesting pairs may be in bodily contact with their neighbours. They make no nest, their single egg is incubated on bare rock. Eggs hatch after ~30 days incubation. The chick is born downy, and can regulate its body temperature after 10 days. They leave the nest site in around 20 days accompanied by the male parent. Chicks cannot fly when they leave the nest but are capable of diving as soon as they hit the water. The female stays at the nest site about 14 days after the chick has left.
Both male and female Common Guillemots moult after breeding and become flightless for 1-2 months. In southern populations they occasionally return to the nest site throughout the winter. Northern populations spend the winter farther from their colonies.

Color on the bay made my day, or more accurately color in St.John's Narrows on a fine Sunday morn'. NL, Canada.
I was so pleased to see that the puffins were still at their nesting site as they would be leaving soon to go out to sea for the winter. We met people just a few days after we were there and they didn't see any puffins. Timing is everything! I had an absolutely amazing evening with them when they flew much closer. Actually, they flew in just as we were arriving so 5 more minutes and I could have set up properly. After they started wandering around, no one moved so they would not be disturbed. The background is the distant ocean. Atlantic Puffins taken at Elliston, Newfoundland.

My absolute favourite place to welcome the sun. It just so happens to be the most easterly point in North America as well so I’m also the first. Usually I’m there alone except for a random fox and an occasional early morning hiker. It’s always windy and always cold but the sound of the waves, the smell of the salt water, and that fresh cool air filling my lungs makes me feel alive. There isn’t another place on earth I’d rather be at that hour of the day. And just thinking about it now makes me crave another early morning lonesome adventure to welcome a new day.
Photographed the Razorbills on Gull Island part of the Witless bay Ecological Reserve on the coast of the Avalon Peninsula in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada
The striking black-and-white Razorbill nests in cliffside colonies overlooking the ocean, often among murres, fulmars, and kittiwakes. It uses its sharp, hatchet-shaped bill to catch fish underwater, sometimes diving to 330 feet. Chicks leave the nest before they even have flight feathers, jumping from their cliff ledges into the water far below. The male parent follows along, minding the chick in the water until it can forage for itself. In winter, Razorbills gather in large flocks to feed, often fairly near to shore.
