One of the doorways into the surviving original buildings ofNewark Hospital which was rebuilt in 1996.

The impressive and gorgeous Gothic architecture of the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark New Jersey the seat of the Archdiocese of Newark is located immediately adjacent Newark’s Branch Brook Park just west of the downtown area. I went to school in Newark, at Rutgers University for the majority of my undergraduate studies, so always admired the immense stature and amazing architectural Gothic details of this truly remarkable house of worship. The sixth largest cathedral in the United States, largest church in New Jersey, its cornerstone was laid on June 11, 1899. The exterior was finished in 1919 but the complex and intricate work on its lovely interiors were not complete because of many delays until October of 1954.

Storage Shed/Office/H.Q. next to the River Trent between the castle and Town Lock.

Downtown Newark back in 2014, the much maligned largest city in the state of New Jersey has struggled for decades, mired in a malaise that stemmed from the destructive and divisive Riots of 1967 and the city has never quite been the same. Other cities mired with urban blight have been able to reinvent themselves, Newark has struggled to do the same. There is much improvement when I last walked the streets this past June for a specialist appointment at University Hospital, but even that neighborhood doesn’t feel quite secure. I attended Rutgers University in Newark for the majority of my undergraduate studies in the 1980’s, walked the downtown area to eat when the food at Robeson Hall didn’t quite cut it, used public transportation during heavy snowfall. I shopped at L. Bamberger & Co Flagship store which was rebranded as were all Bamberger store as Macys which had been the parent company for years and Hanes Department Store on Broad Street. Newark has a very active and positive mayor and administration that is taking leaps and bounds to improve the image and situation of the city, it has been impressive, but much work still remains. These are a few of Newark’s tallest skyscrapers in this image, vestiges of an era when Newark was a mecca for insurance companies long gone. Only Prudential remains today as a large player in the area, actually sponsoring the sports arena. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotoweek @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #omsystem @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @newarkdowntowndistrict @newjerseyisntboring @newjerseyisbeautiful

Totally stunning morning at Newark castle in the East Neuk of Fife. Blog:https://martin-devlin-kcwo.squarespace.com/blog/

I have always been fascinated by the lines and patterns that tractors and agricultural machines produce in fields of crops. Best viewed from above but as I don’t have a drone to do this, a low angled shot produces a pleasing image.

The entrance to Newark Marina on the River Trent has this lovely blue bridge carrying the riverside footpath. Opposite the steps photo poster yesterday.

The main house is perched high on the Cotswold scarp, can just be seen top right, and the summerhouse, overlooking the lake.

Two views of this pretty spot today.

Cherry blossoms or Japanese cherry or Sakura are flowers on trees of the genus Prunus. Very common in Japan and also China & Korea, Washington DC was the recipient of over 3,000 cherry blossom trees from Tokyo Japan with US First Lady Helen Herron Taft and Viscountess Chinda wife of the Japanese ambassador planting the first two. These are not from DC but rather Newark & Belleville’s Branch Brook Park which also holds an annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Essex County New Jersey featuring many of the 2,000 cherry trees donated by Caroline Bamberger Fuld co-founder of Bambergers retail department stores. - [x] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @mpbcom @newjerseyisntboring @newjerseyisbeautiful #omd #tamractales @kehcamera #microfourthirds #micro43 @essexparks

My local Asda Supermarket here in Newark has a large underground car-park with this moving walkway or Travelator to get from one to the other. Been waiting for it to be empty to get a shot!

Lake State Railway train Z127N with SD50 6354 leading the way enters the siding at Newark, Michigan not long after sunrise to meet a southbound grain train back on May 31, 2020.

Z127 is notched out and lugging up hill towards Newark, about to pass under Baldwin road on the south side of Grand Blanc.

Standing beside the eastern channel of the River Trent, is the 12th century Royal Castle of Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire, UK. Newark stands in Central England where two of Britain's historic long distance roads (the Great North Road and Fosse Way) meet at an ancient and convenient river crossing.. This strategic position earned Newark the nickname the 'Key to the North'.

The castle and town were besieged more than once by Paliamentarian forces during the Civil Wars, after which the castle was deliberately ruined in 1648. "Bad" King John, the signatory of Magna Carta and legendary adversary of Robin Hood died here in 1216 whilst attempting to suppress a nationwide rebellion.

The castle dungeon and the kings bedroom are supposed to be haunted.

When we moved here to Newark nearly nine years ago, Cartergate, one of the main shopping streets was far, far busier. Since then it has suffered from financial troubles including the pandemic.

Now it is quite sparse for shoppers, particularly on a dull, cold and windy late afternoon. Many shops have failed with nobody prepared to take them over. Now lots of nail salons, ladies hair dressers, charity shops, betting and gaming places.

It is much easier to park in one of the two retail parks and do your shopping there with free parking or to go to one of the four major supermarkets, again with free parking. Parking in town is hindered by parking chargers, time allowed and by the constant threat of getting in ticket from the ever present parking wardens!

Incidentally, the overhead wires are part of the Christmas decorations and lights which will shortly be installed.

It's been a while since I did a sunset. After some time looking for a place to park then a public path to get here, we arrived just in time for the light show. It has been months since I last use my filters and it was a mess. Haha...

A beautiful mosaic called the Spirit of Jazz which is located at the Newark Pennsylvania Train Station in Newark New Jersey that calls back to the 1920’s era when music and Jazz in particular was a major form of musical expression across the nation. New Jersey’s largest city Newark became a cultural hotspot for the genre from the 1920’s through the 1950’s. The radio station WBGO “Jazz 88” studios are located in downtown New York City area’s only Jazz station. The Spirit of Jazz was a creation of artist Melvin Wallace Clark originally from Detroit Michigan who later in life migrated to New York to study art and completed this Public Art Commission at the end of the twentieth century of his major artistic subject, images of Jazz & Blues that convey energy, color and movement. . iPhone 7 #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #iphone7 @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @apple @visitnewark @visit_nj @newjerseyisntboring @newjerseyisbeautiful #newjerseyisntboring #newjerseyisbeautiful @njtransit

Well, the subject might not be ideal for everyone but someone has to make it their business! This structure, I have always found quite impressive and it comes out better in monochrome.
