Chesterfield Cigarettes - published in Fortune - January 1939

This scan was originally uploaded by another Flickr account that has since been deleted. I have uploaded it to my account solely for the purpose of it continuing to be enjoyed and shared.

Every year, we host a New Year's Day lunch for my sister-in-law and any of the nieces, nephews and significant others who are in town. After lunch, we always play the resolutions game. The only rule is that you must write resolutions—funny or serious— aimed at anyone in the family, put it in the bowl, and then pick one and read it (but you can't read your own). The results can be hilarious.

Here are some examples from the bowl:

I resolve to ignore all new year's resolutions and bucket lists.

I resolve to swim in a pool of Jello. But only if it's blue Jello.

I will sing every day in 2013.

I resolve to cook and eat spaghetti in a zero gravity environment-- with parmesan cheese.

I resolve to take a photograph a day in 2013. (Bet you can't guess whose resolution that is!)

Have some fun with your New Year's resolutions this year; they may be easier to keep!

I kinda felt like shit today. I felt like shit yesterday, too, but as soon as I started taking pictures my whole aspect switched into Photographer Mode and I didn't feel it until I got home. But then I got home and I felt like shit, so I didn't leave the house.

I ate a fortune cookie, though. It said "Focus on your long term goal. Your wish will be granted next year". So, good excuse for some New Year's Resolutions:

1. Eat a cheeseburger

2. Don't eat so many cheeseburgers.

3. Finish up my Yellow project, for realsies, and put in the effort to get a book printed up.

4. Clear off at least half of my credit card debt.

...going to try and eat leftovers, home brought food for lunches. Last year, too many weeks went by where I ate out 5 days a week. This will be last for lunch this week, at least once or twice. Will try to make and freeze portions, so there's some variety too! Yes, a resolution... so week 1 I haven't broken it yet! Yippee! LOL

Sheppard's pie and yam with a brown sugar/pecan/butter crumble (well semi-failed, too much butter, darned! *wink*).

Too bad the kids weren't too fond of this dish, they used to but I guess their tastes have changed. Always helps when we don't have to remind them to eat, every 5 seconds.

It's time to set some goals for myself!

Awwhhhh...the new year! Well I have big plans for this new year..(like I do for every year) I am such a goal setter...I set yearly goals...monthly goals...weekly goal...and yes daily goals. So here are my goals for 2009:

1. Finish my Masters in Biology (all I have left is my research!!)

2. Put kids to bed with NO t.v. (I know BAD parent alert....get off me...I am working on it already and it is going well)

3. Stick with my yoga..NO LESS than three days a week.

4. Finish my 52 self portrait project (almost half way through and tired of looking at my self.)

5. Complete a 365 project...not self portaits...just a picture a day...with no pressure to upload that same day...just take a picture.

The troopers were feeling a little depressed on Blue Monday so they decided to check their New Years resolutions of loosing a few inches around their waistlines. So far they look to be unsuccessful!

I always admire people who go out running

One of my New Year's resolutions is to focus on a particular field of photography on which I have barely concentrated before: (macro) flower photography. The other New Year's resolution is to make more shots in The Netherlands, most of my inspiration thus far has been whilst travelling. Let's see how strong these commitments are during the year....

Note: does anyone know the name of this particular flower? I'm not so good in determination yet. Probably a crocus?

Made in Cambridge, UK, about a year ago.

As 2012 looms above – tomorrow (actually in a few hours!) – I’m already thinking of what my New Year’s fashion resolutions are going to be. Come on, those are important too…

One. Wear as much maroon as possible – I’m talking even lipstick in shades of dark red and maroon, perhaps nail polish – though that chips too easily with as much typing as I do freelancing…

In and around Hamworthy on a sunny day with my new lens. All the photos are straight out of the camera, just to see how it performs. I'm really pleased with it and am getting used to the focusing. Hamworthy Poole 29.12.2013
