Oh man, this is what weekends are all about. It was cold and raining all day, so we decided not to go running in the morning. Instead we stayed dry and walked at the gym, then kept the lazy up with an afternoon of learning a new board game and starting new needlepoint projects. Because it was a "new season/new stitching" kind of day. Schnookie's is the robot and Pookie's is the owl. And the board game we tried? Is Mysterium, which is beyond awesome. Ghosts and dream visions! It's so much fun!!

When we try to conjure up the idea of the ideal Sunday, this is pretty much entirely what comes to mind.

I have been wanting to do a new personal project for a while now but all the ideas I have had have never really come off. I am always full of good intentions for for one reason or another they never really get off the ground. I still have a few of these ideas sizzling away in the back of my mind currently cooking away but the other day a flash of inspiration hit. I had that thought - "why on earth did I not think of this before?!" and have since started a project which I can see running for a while. I have no deadline as it is just for me but it is started so its all shiny fresh new and exciting. By the way, I'm not telling you what it is about yet but here is a sneaky little peak.

I have this block of state bird and flower stamps out in the hall in front of the bathroom -- the only place in the apartment that gets absolutely no daylight to fade them. I have it in acid-free glass and a frame. The stamps show almost no fading after many decades. These stamps are a treasured possession that my aunt gave me many, many years ago.

Well, today I thought I would just take a picture of it as it hung out in the hall. This mushroomed into a fascinating "set the birds free" project that went on for an hour or so. I eventually brought the framed stamps out into the light of day temporarily and set it up so I could use my macro lens to take individual pictures of states where I know people so I could send them "their" stamp as a gift of sorts. I really learned a lot by doing this -- mainly about squaring off the individual pictures and keeping them on a flat and square plane with the camera on the tripod. I had never done anything like this before.

I thought it wasn't too bad for a beginner.

It wasn't a rock... it was a rokhopper... (liberty taken there, sorry).

AKA "look at me, I'm FABULOUS".

Can't decide if I want to quilt each block for the Quilt Along or just make the squares and piece it?!?!?! We will see.
