Even by the middle of November last year the autumn colours were slow to develop locally here in the New Forest. This was a scene I'd photographed a number of times before trying to portray the finger-like branches moving across the image but I liked the small amount of atmosphere I got here and the colours that seemed more in keeping with early autumn rather than the 14th November!

Take just after dawn on a boggy area near Roundhill.

The New Forest in England with a bit of creative photoshop play.

I was afraid the heather might be finished this late in the season, but it was like fairyland, pink to the horizon.

A New Forest Keepers cottage in a superb location near Brockenhurst. The cottage has a two acre garden.

Just like sharing a giant ice cream with your other half ! This morning the sun was out between showers so we headed into the forest with our cameras before the rain set in. There were a couple of egrets , three cormorants as well as many swans on this pond near East Boldre.

I am out camping in The New Forest and this very young foal has been running around jumping in puddles this evening a joy to see.

Somewhere in the New Forest.....

Unbelievably this is the same sunrise from where I posted that misty shot the other day.

I had a full spectrum of colours but by the time I had settled on a composition I was happy with the sky had moved from red to orange which is fine as it compliments the Autumn bracken better.

Talking of Autumn we always imagine crisp days and misty mornings but in reality the wind and rain seems to be taking over this year!

Ending a difficult month on a bit of a high this morning.

Roll on October though!!

A recent outing on a beautiful frosty morning - one of the few with some good light! I was on my way back to the car with brain in neutral and had to do a double-take walking past this scene just a few yards from the car park. The light moved very quickly and soon was no longer backlighting the tree so I had time to set up and take just one shot only. Moe mornings like this please!

After a hectic week I was more then ready to embrace a misty frosty morning.

So I donned my Michelin man outfit, defrosted my car with insect repellent (by mistake, it was early!) and headed into the New Forest.

The conditions were perfect and I was very very happy.

Once a proud tree in the New Forest.

Firecrest - New Forest - Hampshire. This species is now widespread in the New Forest in mixed woodland where they favour holly in particular.

A lovely pre-dawn warm glow was reflected into this late summer scene in the New Forest from a couple of weeks ago.

Probably the best morning for conditions I've caught this summer. A few problems with mobility at the moment has prevented my usual roaming and restricted me to spots close to car parks etc. This was a short walk / limp from a layby on a busy A road ð It's a spot with a group of pine trees frustratingly hard to line up with other elements but these 3 did the job when the sun popped up. What might not show up well were the tens of spider webs glowing as they were caught in the backlighting which initially drew me round to this viewpoint.

I remembered there was a shop selling everything made of wood during a day trip to the village and was pleased to see 'Down to the Wood' was still there (right of shot). The 'Lyndhurst Antiques Centre' was fun to wander round too.

A beautiful part of England - I could have spent hours and hours just photographing here!

The New Forest, Hampshire. A dream for me..

Printed up some new work recently and framed up a number of them for our living room. This one has been singing to me all week!

THIS WEEK... I 'ave been mostly photographing purple heather!

I prefer sunrise for this especially if you get mist. I have had two reasonable successful outings. This was this morning and it was just so balmy even at 5am! Easy to get up as I can't sleep.

And it was good to hear this on the radio en route home. Have tickets to see this lot next March. Fingers crossed it will happen!

A rather moody dawn over the summer heaths of the New Forest

I don't usually like walking through woodland but didn't have much choice on this holiday. The New Forest (in S. England) was proclaimed a royal forest by William The Conqueror in about 1079 after the Norman invasion. Most of it is still owned by the Crown today but it's original use as a royal hunting ground is long gone. I've played around with the foliage a teeny bit on this one.

A mid-March sunrise across one of the (few) higher points of the New Forest. Photographing this area often means looking at smaller scenes / more intimate images as there are relatively few wider view points but it's nice to stretch the wide-angle muscles occasionally and this elevated position often catches a bit of mist and frost. When I first started concentrating on landscape photography in the mid-naughties it was my go-to place and it was several years before I started seeing other photographers here but now it's very popular and you wont't get any lone-time with good conditions these days. I went here so aften I got a bit fed-up of the place so avoided it for years but have been returning for a while and enjoy seeing things with fresh eyes. It wasn't helped by memories of a broken key!! Getting back into the car after a trip here I'd first put the key into the ignition but as I climbed in my leg caught the key and snapped it in the lock!! Luckily, my wife came to the rescue with a spare key and pliers in her car but lessoned learned! Thankfully the present car is keyless so one worry removed...

OK so I am starting to run out of ideas for naming my images. Well there are a lot of blues here and this was taken Monday night. And nothing wrong with a bit of New Order.

Anyway another from Hatchet Pond.

it is time for the annual drifts and the ponies are on the move.
